Windows Resale Question

My Dell laptop came with Vista Home BASIC. I bought and installed Windows Vista Home Premium (Retail.) I am restoring the computer back to Vista Home Basic (OEM).

Will I run into any complications when selling the Vista Home Premium Version? The person buying it should have no problem using the key if it's not active on another computer, right? It's NOT OEM.. it's a full retail upgrade version which I bought in a retail store.

What does the retail Upgrade EULA say? Start > winver and then click the license-terms link in the panel.

I *think* it's legit to de-Upgrade your Vista Home Basic, then transfer the Upgrade license.

Did you activate the Premium version with Microsoft? Or were you just running on a 30-day temporary license or something?

It's activated.. I've been using it on this laptop. I'm selling the laptop so I'm going to roll it back to the Vista Basic which came with it.

In that case, it would be wise to contact Microsoft and make sure that the Premium package is no longer active on the laptop or any other computer. They are not unreasonable about those things and it puts you on solid ground.
