Windows Server 2003 - Delivery Services Problem

The server at the company I work for runs Windows Server 2003 for Small Business. We use a Lanier 5622 printer/copier/scanner for the office. The print & copy functions work without flaw. The scan function seems to go down daily and I cannot seem to find an answer why.

The method to restarting the scan service is done by running a link off the start menu that reads "Start Delivery Services". This typically lets you scan one more time before it doesn't work again.

If any who has any experience or any ideas that could help me solve this problem I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks.

Issue isn't clear to me, but it sounds like you are using the Lanier software service to scan in place of the native Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service.

And this service is stopping for some unknown reason and you have to manually start it everytime, which only works for one scan at a time? Is that correct?

Does the service actually show that it is stopped?

I was going to suggest disabling the sleep function on the unit to see if that changed anything, but that shouldn't cause the service to stop.


I would try turning the software service off and turn on the Windows 2003 windows image acquistion service on and use the native imaging software in windows to see if it has any issues scanning. If not then the issue relies with the Lanier software.

Possibly you have some security software that is blocking the service once it runs.

You know I'm not the person who set up the server so I'm not sure what service is running the scanning. I will look into the WIA or the Lanier software. You gave me a pretty good idea of what I should be attempting.

I'm almost certain that it runs the Lanier software to scan to the server. In fact the printer has a display and even shows on the display the title of the folder to which is is supposed to scan into. I doubt WIA would do that for the printer.

I found out a little more about my situation...

We do not use WIA. I looked at our services and it was disabled. I did find that we use ScanRouter V2 Lite. I have reviewed the management guide and it seems we are properly set up. When I click start delivery services, the scan function works again. I'm pretty sure the server has been turning itself off at night, updating or power outages I'm not sure. Either way the server is not restarting the delivery services for the scan function. Any ideas?!
