Windows Server 2003 to Workstation

Hello Members,

I have some questions, currently I have Windows XP Pro. and I am developer.

The sistuation is that I need Windows Server 2003 installed on my PC so that I can develop in a server platform. Due to I need some resources that the server can have for example SharePoint.

The Problem is I was wondering if I install Server 2003 can I also use the PC as my workstation. For example Install Games, Listen to Music, Browse the Internet, Burn DVD/CD and so on...

Your help would be greatly apperciated.

You could also dual boot. Or run XP, then host Server 2003 in a Virtual Machine, like Virtual PC 2004, or VMWare..

What about Games...do you think it should be a problem in running games...

And also, Is there a way to install Office 2003 in Windows Server 2003...It keeps telling me that the OS is not correct.

Just run Virtual Server 2005. You can download a 180 day eval if you want to try it out.

You'll need to turn on Hardware Acceleration in display properties.

Basically Server 2003 is XP on steroids. By following the link in zebra14's post you can turn on all the 'goodies' that have been turned off.
My main system is Server 2003 and I do everything on it that I did in XP.

not true, server sucks a$$ for games. Server video drivers dont work well for game play even with all the tweaks my same system with XP woops W2k3 in FPS.

I will be real curious to see what the benchmark is for games in both XP pro and XP server. It may be that server may be optimized for background services so that your application may run slower and less responsible to input.

What platform are you development that you need a windows 2003 server? Is this for Visual Studio?

Yes...it is for VS.Net, and I am also developing in SharePoint....which requires to have Server 03 installed...
