Windows setup is driving me nuts!

So I finally get my system setup, but I can't install windows cause it wont detect my hard drive. So I call tyan and I find out I gotta put in the IDE disk that has the sata drivers on it at the setup by hitting f6. But it wont read the disk. I fixed this by flipping the ide ribbon over. So everything is going good untill the damn thing says the file si3114.sys cant be copied, retry, skip, or cancel. I skipped it and there were a bunch of other files it say the same thing about. So I skipped, and it reboot to start installing windows after partitioning, and I got a bsod telling me the drive isnt gonna work and crap.

I know the disk isnt corrupted because I even made my own disk and it didnt work. I read around online and found that the disk may not be set up right as you have to put certain files in the root of the floppy and some in a folder. But the files on mine are all in the root. Just in case this is the problem, here is a copy of the txtsetup.oem file:

; This file installs the SiI 3114 non-RAID serial ATA driver as part
; of text mode setup on Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP,
; and Windows Server 2003.

The os im trying to install is xp pro and my system stats are as follows:

I'm curious what a IDE disk has to do with anything or why you need to mess with the IDE cable? The only thing you need is a working floppy drive and that SATA disk provided via that link above.

Also, in your BIOS turn on Floppy Seek to make sure your floppy drive is working.

I went through the same situation with my Soyo mobo when I started to install Win XP Pro. I had setup two RAID disk arrays (0 and 1) and plugged in the hard drives in their appropriate ports on the mobo. But in order for the drives to be recongized, I had to have both ATA and SATA controller drivers, each on separate disks so that I could "F6" at the start of the Windows installation. I was able to find right subdirectory on the mobo CD only after calling tech support and finding someone that knew what I was talking about. I had to copy "all" the files and folders in the drivers subdirectory on the mobo cd on to the floppy disk. I didn't have to rearrange or find the right combination of drivers, just copy what was in the subdirectory of the particular controller on the mobo CD. Here is what I have copied to my floppy disk for the ALi controller:

File folders:

Win98 me
Win 2000
Win nt
Win xp
Winxpa64

Files:

disk1
readme
txtsetup.oem

All these files and folders are on the root directory of my floppy (a:\) A first, I thought I just needed the Win xp folder and the three files that are listed, but that is was not true. ALL the folders are required including the three files I listed. When I finally got the driver floppy setup right, I was able to finally get windows installation to recognize my harddrives and I could install the OS to the RAID array I wanted it to go.

The manual was very generic in instructing what files and folders needed to be on the driver floppy. Even the readme file was not helpful. Only until I talked to someone at Soyo Tech support (after beening on hold forever) was I able to get on the right track. Good luck to you.

Best regards to all.

Ok I just got off the phone with tech support, and I tried a usb floppy drive, and set it to raid instead of ultra in the bios and used the other driver disc, and no luck. They told me to call back monday, and they will look into it further after talking to some people at their lab.

Also, maui, I checked the motherboard cd and found the file but its in a folder by itself no os subdirectories. If you can send me the files you used, I will let you teabag me.

There is something very wrong with that. Tyan told you you need a harddrive with the drivers on it? When you push F6 in XP's setup the only thing it will read from for the drivers is a floppy disk. There is no reason to even be messing with an ide drive or any ide cables. If fact your best bet is to go download the drivers that Bar81 suggested, make the floppy, shut down the computer and unhook all drives execpt for your floppy, cd-rom, and the sata drive your installing to.

I see your using a usb floppy drive, I'm not 100% sure but there could be a chance that XP's setup isnt seeing it for whatever stupid reason....

No they said to grab the ide FLOPPY disk that has the sata drivers. I also already tried bar81's suggestion, and I had no luck. Also I mean that I tried a USB drive also, on top of the ide one.

You know, I just realized that Bar81 said go to asus but your motherboard is made by Tyan. I would try THIS driver first and then try THIS one. Im a little confused as to how and why it would have two differnet drivers. Should just be one raid driver and then if you dont set up an array, the drives are treated normal everyday drives....

Here's a thought: Have you tried ANOTHER (DIFFERENT) floppy? Floppies do go bad, and even a new one can be bad. Try making your SATA driver disk with a different floppy.

Good luck

Hmm, I am gonna try using the disk and when it says it cant copy the file and to hit retry, I will load each individual file on a flopy and hit retry for each one.

I thought that USB support was only attained with the install of the OS. After failure, can you get to DOS or whatever prompt, and copy a file from A:\ whatEverFileName to A:\someOtherName ? If there is room on the disk, and If you can, would seem to rule out the floppy being broken. I am guessing in dos-ese: copy A:\foo.txt A:\bar.txt

EDIT: I mean after failure to install the OS, it might say something about F1 if I recall right....

well still worth a try if you get another failed install, I am guessing at that point you can toss in any diskette with a small test file and try.

i went through something similar last week.

my problem was that i was using the supplied power/data cable that came with the raptor. instead, i had to use the data cable that came with my Asus A7N8X 2.0 Deluxe motherboard and just used the legacy power cable. my SATA controller was built-in to the motherboard so i guess thats why no power was being supplied to the drive.

and i dont have a floppy drive. so i just slipstreamed SP2 and the SATA drivers into my copy of windows XP.

I read about a guy that had to install the RAID drivers on his P4 board even though he didn't use them.
