Anybody wanna trade for a KT333 mobo (ECS K7VTA3)? Not the best but if you need to run an AMD chip...

I just want to play around with the OS...

Has anyone who got this checked the disks. Is it marked on the disks NFR?

I got one of these too. Funny thing is today I get a message on my answering machine, because I'm a MS partner, offering to sell me the same thing for $200+. Seems to be a big push on to promote their server software, probably because Linux is taking away a chunk of their business. "Many of our partners have asked us for tools to assist them in selling Micorsoft networking solutions in the small and medium business spaces against open source alternatives."

Anyways the box is labeled "Promotional Sample, Not for resale". The CD's inside are in DVD type cases. There's a "Promotional Sample, Not for resale" sticker on the cases, but nothing on the CD's themselves that I can see that bears that message. There are 6 CD's and one DVD in the box. Kinda cool, but I'm not sure what I'll use it for.

Turns out everyone from my company that got in on that XP deal with the lava lamp received a copy of SBS 2003. One of the guys got a call from MS asking if he was interested in the software and he said no since he has no use for server software but they still sent him a copy.

Merry Christmas to me! I just got one too. What is it exactly? Does it look anything like Windows? What makes it server software?

My copy is in a full retail box and the serial looks totally legit. The only thing that says NFR is the round, yellow sticker on the front of the box that can be removed with a hair dryer. For now, I'm not opening it though. If someone could tell me if the jewel case or cd sleeve inside says NFR, that would be great. I would guess not because it looks like a full retail version.

I too got in on the MS Partner deal (both times actually). The first time that they ran the deal was with the lava lamp and they gave me a full retail box version. The second time was with the baseball, bobblehead doll and chewing gum and that was just a little sleeve without the retail box and it had NFR written all over it. That's why I would think that this Server software is the real deal and not really a NFR copy.

I received this yesterday as well. I posted in the Operating Systems forum.
1966 sent me this Link on How to convert your Windows Server 2003 to a Workstation. I'd trade someone for a full up Legit version of Windows XP Pro.

If this is like previous "premium" editions, it prolly isn't patchable.

Added, SBE has exchange (mail+other stuff server), sql server and a couple other things embedded, this wouldn't work well for running as a workstation, as the install process automatically installs exchange, sql, etc.

I looked on Ebay and yes, the ones that say they come with 5 licenses are these ones. I just find it funny how they are selling them sealed however inside the box on the DVD cases it has the NFRS sticker on it. With crap like this going on, I don't think MS will continue to be so nice to its partners for much longer.

You need to read this full thread before you post, then go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/howtobuy/pricing.mspx and read up on SBS.

Not so. Anyone that's receiving this can actually just use it to get Windows 2003 server for free. You don't have to install any of the optional components.
