Windows System Error Ip Address Conflict

I have a netgear 614 wireless router and 3 computers, a tivo series 2, and an xbox all hooked up thru the router.

2 computers are hard line in on back of router, & the tivo and xbox are hard line in on back of router, one laptop is wireless with a pci card.

Router works well, all pcs are online (yet not setup to send and recieve with each other), just to get onto the internet, on the wireless laptop it is setup with wep changed SSID and password etc etc and whatnot...and all seems to work and be fine there too...


Everything appears to work fine, comcast cable is the provider btw, but on my main pc here that I am using a few times a week i get this annoying message that says

The system has detected an IP conflich with another system on the network. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result. More details are available int he system event log. Consult your network admin immediately to resolve the conflict.

Ok So I go into my system event log and all i really see is the same error message posted above (no additional info) and 2 other log errors that both say

The system detected an address conflict for IP address 192.168.0.3 with the system having network hardware address xxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result.

So my question is, what is going on and how can I fix it? The popups aren't often or terrible just more annoying than anything, haven't seen them on any of the other pcs, tivo and xbox work fine, other hard wired pc no popups like this, the wireless laptop no popups, just mine here - maybe cuz i use it 75% of the time vs those others rarely getting used?

I honestly don't know but was hoping maybe someone here could walk me thru something that might fix this or point me in the right direction as to what to look at adjust or what to stop these system error messages.

You need to check all the devices to make sure two of them don't have the same IP. I have no idea how to do this on an xbox (non modded?) or a tivo... I assume those are DHCP anyway.

Or you could check the MAC addresses of all the systems and find the one that matches the 'network hardware address' to find the offending machine. MAC addresses are often printed on the device itself or in the manual.

Ok after your done laughing, try to help me out, how or where do I look to find out what IP address my computers are?

I will go thru my tivo menus for network and see if i can find an ip or something, beyond that shouldn't each pc have its own mac address or ip address or whatever automatically?

I am new to all this, set it up and it works, added wep and changed ssid and password on router for a bit of security but beyond that im not too technically inclined or educated on how all this stuff works.

My xbox IS modded btw and I can see its ip addy if that helps?

Xbox is almost always off, laptop too is off most of the time, tivos always on, and that second hardline computer is normally on quite a bit too, this one is my main tho and is the one i get those messages on all the time...

Just not sure where or how to check the ip address of each computer
as for the mac address thing, ok in the error i get a mac address, but again where or how do I check my computers mac address to figure out which computer matches the conflicting error message.

I would assume it is this main computer fighting with another object hooked upto the router for a IP address (both trying to use same one?). Even if the mac address matches my main pc here yet does not match any of the other pcs or devices, what would I look for or do to try and fix this?

When i get that message, sometimes i am knocked offline for like 2-3 mins, I don't get it often maybe once a week but today alone i got it like 5 times so I am getting frustrated with it...

btw the only other devices that are on at the moment are the tivo, the other pc and this pc, xbox is off, laptop is off (dunno if that makes any difference)...

From the CLI (type cmd on the run line and hit enter)

Type ipconfig /all

it will give you the ip address, the MAC address, along with a bunch of other info

Ok so i did that on my primary pc it says ip of 192.168.0.5

now i go do that on every other device (and try to check tivo)
I know xbox says 192.168.0.7 btw

but i can check laptop and other pc and tivo if possible,

what do i do if say my laptop says same ip,

in other words if i find a match where they are both trying to use same ip what do i do to fix it?
