Windows Update Question

When running windows update I had over 32 files it downloaded and installed. Where are these files/exe's so I can back them up for future use or install them on another computer?

Running xp on one sytem and 2000 on another.

When you use Windows Update like that, there's no way to make backup copies that can be installed manually later.

Thanks Lord Evermore, Is there an ftp or stand-alone fashion to download all these updates? It's very difficult under modem conditions for three computers and much easier at work to download then I simply burn a CD...

While it is good idea what you are thinking, most of the windows update updates are windows version specific.. There some that are generic to all ose. All of the updates will have a number associated with it IE 810565 for example. If you go to Microsoft's Knowledge Base Search By Article ID and enter the number, some will have a download fix there.

2) A way that you can minimize the number of downloads required is get and install the latest Service Packs for your version of windows (2000 up tp SP3, XP up to SP1) and that will help cut down the number of updates on the WindowsUpdate Site

Yeah, right....I just installed Windows XP Home (clean install on newly built system) and
the SP1. Went to Windows Update and have over 21 patches......geesh.....

Windows Corporate Updates allows you to download patches and install later.

Here's the one for Windows XP:

The URL for Windows 2000 is different (I don't have it handy).

Unfortunately, to use Corporate Updates for Windows XP, you have to use another Windows XP client. The whole updates regime is one of my pet peeves with MS software.
