XP had a REG edit to open up the WAU DL speed, Can this be done on Win 7 as well?

From what I've seen (though I'm not on what people would regard as superfast broadband here), newer versions of Windows use the available bandwidth. It's the installation of updates that takes the longest by quite a long shot.

this is a valid rant. anyone in this thread try this on top of adding office 2010 or 2013 before running updates?? you're looking at about 2.2gb of updates. even on decent i5 machines being pushed from a local WSUS it takes 2-3 reboots and about 2 hours. I had better luck with qchain and ordering the updates myself with win2k and XP. I don't get how they can't seem to order them correctly to not cause failures every time.

As others have said, i .net updates seem to be the worst as far as time consuming. office updates..... i really question rather they're updating anything or flat out deploying whole sections of the damn program... /s

All we want are at least roll up packs that we can integrate into install media when it's needed.

And, unless i misunderstood, service packs rarely bring new features unless it's something very critical they're deeming a feature to make you think you're getting something neat for free. NT4sp3 was common when i got into NT and networing and i don't recall a service pack ever including something that wasn't fairly critical for security patching.

Not counting Office which I don't use anymore, a clean install of 8.1 on this 1TB EVO takes less than an hour for updates + clean format plus some basic apps.

An enterprise hotfix rollup is available for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

I've yet to try/test this. I keep forgetting about it when i have time.

I work on a lot and slip steam the install once, so it includes the majority of the updates. Saves some time.

I found a great update pack that will update your system or a install image by and called simplix updater. Supposedly it is updated once a month on the 15th, but it has yet to be updated this month. It doesn't include every single update, but aside from hardware drivers there is less than 10 updates that need to be downloaded once it is applied.

The forum it is hosted on is in Russian, but Google translate has no problem as long as you tell it that the native language is Russian.

There are 18 updates not including hardware drivers at the time of this post. (& 4 more after a restart)
