ok.. so you are saying, you installed Vista on, lets say, drive D?
And now you have wiped it?
Ok.. Vista modifies the boot sector, which is on the C drive/partition
Boot up your Windows XP disc, so you can get into the Recovery Console

To start the Windows Recovery Console, use one of the following methods: ? Use the Windows Setup floppy disks or the Windows CD-ROM to start your computer. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press F10 or press 'R" to repair."
Run "FIXMBR"
There is nother boot config command, but I have never had any experience with it. Its the BOOTCFG command. It allows you to rebuild the boot configuration. But, I'm going to assume this is for the XP boot sector, so, it would most likely not work until AFTER you have run FIXMBR.

bootcfg /add
bootcfg /rebuild
bootcfg /scan
bootcfg /list
bootcfg /disableredirect
bootcfg /redirect [portbaudrate] | [useBiosSettings]
