Use the Windows XP 64 bit driver instead. You may have to reinstall it once to get it working.

I dl'ed it fine and it burned with no problems. Went to install and the only problem which is where I am stuck at now is I didn't get an activation code since I downloaded the torrent instead of the direct download from MS. Any way to get around this or did I waste 6+ hours downloading this beast?

Go to the Microsoft site and start the process again. You don't have to re-download this monster, as they give you the install key before you start.

where do you get the office betas

And ATi drivers too:disgust:

The ATi drivers from their site work just fine for me. A64, X850 Pro.

hey people,

I'm missing something here or rather at MS. Hope someone will help me out
--OS Win98SE download at 4 Mbps.

I went to the Vista site, followed all the directions, a page appeared with the auth. key--for some reason when I tried to print, the key didn't print, although print background was on.

Checking my email, no key or where to download came in. Actually, nothing came in from MS.

On the page where I got my 1st shot at a key, there was alink to the download page and I started.

I had to quit a bit through it so, lost it all.

I have three questions:

1) When I download, should I be in "open" or save?

2) Where do I get the blasted Ak... download manager? All that seems to happen when I click on the "use these links for the download manger" is straight pull of the files.

-----------------
When I started my 1st download, a page came up with the key, which BTW wouldn't print the key. The other info would, but not the key.

Anyway, I followed the link from the key page and got to the download.
I used the left download--the one for MS's manager, even though I don't have it.

I had to stop the download. When I tried to start it again, I was redirected to a page that told me I had received all the keys allowed and told me thanks for downloading.

After that, I tried to start over but was redirected again to the "I have all the keys allowed." I cleared cookies and temp files, but got the same message.

Finally, I found my way back to the download page and tried again.
It's downloading, but no manager; I'm downloading in "open," Should that have been "save"? But even if I get a dwnld, without the key that goes with it, I doubt the download working.

3) So, how do I start over, get a new key?

and the dwnld manager, the new download and should I be in "open" or "save"?

Thanks,

oh, is there a MD5 somewhere that we can use to see if the download matches the original? Also, when I went back to the beginning to try again, I had cleared cookies, temp files, swp file, ini. But that did no good. Still got the redirect to I've use all my allotments of keys.

First of all you can get 2 keys and each is good for 10 installs.
2. M$ has sent you an e-mail with the key(s) & the urls to the d/l area(s).
3. You should be fine to go!

Edited: OOPS my bad...it's 2 keys good for 10/ea installs (not 10 keys x10).
Caffeine drip not plugged in properly.

Are you sure about 10 keys? I applied and received my second key because I was going to try the 64bit version on another computer along with my 32 bit version, and I thought it would need a second key. Anyway, after I received the second key, I also had the message that I had received my allotment of keys (2), and each key was good on 10 machines.

I installed the 64 bit version... less than impresses. Just feels like XP with a nicer GUI, and runs much slower. Ran the system rating with my rig which is a fairly high end gaming pc and got a rating of...3. Checked the resource usage and it was using more than 50% of my 2 gigs of xms ram just running basic apps. Theres no way i'm upgrading for some time after its released. All the things I was looking forward to, they seemed to drop to meet the deadline.

Ditto on all counts. Although I do think that the x64 will eventually come on like a freight train.
Also, it is self evident that 4GB RAM will be du rigueur unless Microsoft somehow turns into MiracleSoft.

Hot off THG!
http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/06/12/ms_flash_performance_accelerators/

Now, in addition to needing the most cutting edge hardware in order to keep Vista from performing like a pot-bellied-pig, M$ is recommending THREE new technologies, to wit:

Microsoft preps flash-based "performance accelerators" for Vista
Hybrid hard drives to become Vista Premium requirement
SuperFetch, which was premiered at PDC in Los Angeles last September, will be a
Vista feature that maintains frequently accessed data from the hard drive.
ReadyDrive pertains to how the operating system utilizes the Flash memory from a hybrid hard drive.

runs great on my rig, comparable to my XP performance. no problems so far except warnings on particular software, but my games (CS BF, HL2 so far tested) perform well. MP3s and browsing no problems, and running dual monitors.

I have problems creating the CD (probably my own ignorance, but some help would be appreciated). So far got the iso burned to a dvd but it takes up only 48MB - there is another file of over 4GB (64bit version) - what do I do to put this together?

It runs kind of slow on a similar rig that I have. Someone said that just the OS and IE running took up almost 500MB. So it almost sounds like if you are comfortable with XP and 1GB, you might want 2GB with Vista. This could be beta-bloat, so don't throw me overboard.

This is nowhere near as bad as when Windows 95 came out and people were trying to run it with 4MB of ram.

On a little disappoint note, I just got a new U3 enabled USB drive. Vista didn't work with this sucker. Perhaps if I hadn't password protected the drive, the drive part would have been accessable, but the U3 program never started.

I burned it with DVD Decrypter, which you should still be able to find on the internet. This was the 3GB 32bit version, but it should work with the 4GB version. By the way, the file is an ".iso" file, so it should just be one file.

thanks for the reply to my slightly ot response. I downloaded both the 32bit and the 64bit versions, and both have an iso part of about 48MB and another file with a ra extension which is 3.2 or 4.1 gb. I just downloaded and used several utilities, including deepburner pro (free) to put the iso on DVD. Alkways the same it is about 48MB. May be I should just order the dvds...

I dowloaded the 3.12gig Vista. Installed it with no problem. Did not ask me which version to install. The only problem so far is it does not recognize my intergrated audio(it says, "no audio output device is installed" by the way, according to microsoft, you can use the same key for up to 10 computers.

audio is now working. Vista downloaded driver but not install it cuz it sees it as an optional update. Another optional update not installed is NVIDIA Corporation - media - Nvidia(R)
nForce(TM) MIDI UART. Anyone know what this is?
