I downloaded both the 32bit and the 64bit versions, and both have an iso part of about 48MB and another file with a ra extension which is 3.2 or 4.1 gb. I just downloaded and used several utilities, including deepburner pro (free) to put the iso on DVD. Alkways the same it is about 48MB. May be I should just order the dvds...

48 MB is your download manager
You can paste links into flashget, but since the MS downloads can interrupt, you have to right click file and check browser referral

Easier:
Go to MS to get the keys
then here to download torrent iso
www.vistatorrent.com (scroll down for instant start link)
Burn image with nero selected to "UDF" DVD/ISO

Note: MS knows about this mirror, this is not piracy - Vista 5384.4 Beta is free to public
And this torrent passes the MD5 check

So do you just burn the ISO file onto a DVD once you've downloaded it? Is there anything "special" you have to do?

Thanks OP. I am going to give it a try on a spare drive that I have and see how good it is.

Thanks OP.

Downloaded the 32bit ISO and it burned quite nicely.

Now, time to pull out one of those spare 1.8ghz systems and load it up.

The Windows Vista betas are the Ultimate version, so they include everything that MCE has.

Does anyone know how to get an install key after you've downloaded the ISO? I got my ISO direct from MS, but never got an install key. Any help would be appreciated.

Vista gave me a performance rating of 3 overall. What is the range? 1-5? I got a 3.9 for my FX 5900 video card. My XP 1600 running at 1.73 got a 3.0. Runs ok with a gig of memory. Thanks OP!

You've probably already figured this out, but if you look at the original post in this thread, it has a link if you don't have a product key. Just click on that and fill out all the info.

The Windows Vista betas are the Ultimate version, so they include everything that MCE has.
The following are requirements for Windows Vista Premium logo-compliant PC and will be mandated by June 1st, 2007:

Must have H.264 hardware decoding
Must have HDCP
Must support multi-monitor support
Must have HD audio
Must have HD audio jack presence detection
Must have Serial ATA 2.5
Must have minimum of 50MB NV cache on hybrid HD's with at least 8MB/sec write 16MB/sec read (for mobile only)
Must support booting from USB flash drives
Must have Windows Vista Green Button on all remotes
Must have Green Driver Quality Rating (DQR)
Green score of 7 to 9
Yellow score of 4 o 6
Red score of 1 to 3
I've seen several comments in this and other threads in reference to the Vista ratings seemingly being low for what one would consider rather high-end hardware.
Now, you know!
A 5 is probably nearly unatainable even with today's bleeding-edge stuff.

FYI,
I did a clean install of the x64 and Office 2007 and came up with a total of 140,000 files! :Q:Q:Q

Thanks, got it. I guess I just overlooked the key the first time I downloaded the ISO.

I managed to get a 4 with the following in play.
1. 36GB Raptor
2. D805 O/C'd at 4GB (200MHz FSB)
3. P5WD2-E
4. 4GB Platinum OCZ 6400 RAM
5. 7600GT
6. x64 Vista

Did I miss anything?
Actually, with this much horsepower applied to Vista, I kind of like it.
Much faster than when I had it installed on an Opty 144 w/2GB ram. (144 is also O/C'd.)

Will the key that I used with my 32 bit version also work with a 64 bit vista iso, or will I need another key for that platform?

Same key worked with either x86 or x64 for me.
