I started another download after I could not get the first one to resume, (played with it for almost an hour before I gave up). The current download is running much faster and is still going strong at 37%. I wonder what happened to the first one? Oh well, got my fingers crossed.
I have a spare 40GB hard drive I'm going to throw in as a secondary drive and install onto that. I figure if this thing goes south I'll just repair XP with a fixmbr. I've also backed up all my data in case it really goes south and I have to reinstall XP.
I'll let you all know how I make out later this evening.
I also found Vista beta drivers for my 9800 Pro and Audigy 2 but nothing yet for my nForce 2 mainboard. I'll keep looking.

Can you do that with Vista? I remember before, you couldn't dual boot different versions of Windows unless both versions were installed onto the same drive, but different partitions. I would much rather install Vista on a seperate hard drive and have it dual boot along side with XP Pro.

You know ......... I just assumed you could because Vista doesn't use boot.ini like XP does. It uses something called bcedit.exe and I believe you can set it up to boot from different drives. I may be wrong. If I can't then I'll just partition my main drive and dual boot that way. I'll let you know after I finish downloading it and burning it to disc.

Windows doesn't care what drive it's on. Even XP.

I know that you can install Windows on any drive, but I wanted to know if you can dual boot from 2 different physical drives with Vista. Before, when I dual booted 98SE and 2K, I had to run them on the same drive, but partition the drive.

That's because Windows 9X used DOS as the underlying kernel, which DOS only supports booting from the first physical drive on the first physical partition. This limitation is gone with the NTLDR on up (windows NT bootmanager, which is used on NT, 2K and XP). If you're not using 9x anymore, it's not going to care. 9x will always need to be on the first partition of the first drive.

The 64-bit version you will need 64-bit drivers, but all your other software will work fine.

^^
If you read carefully, clicking on the links at the left will install the DL manager and start the DLs from that.

OK, I have Vista Beta up and running. I have a problem with my second HDD. It is a SATA drive connected through a PCI card(my MOBO doesn't supports SATA).

Vista seems to have some trouble and I have not been able to get this drive working. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it.

I had problem with an older build of Vista that refused to boot when I've my Maxtor DiamondMax 10 detected in the BIOS (I had to set it to "none"). It would boot to the white progress bar and then blank screen. I had to install on a Western Digital instead. Hopefully they fixed this problem. Maybe you can install your SATA controller drivers for Windows XP??? But backup first as you might hose the Vista installation.

I got my sound working for the 64 bit version of vista w/Audigy 2 Value card.

Use the Windows XP 64 drivers instead of the Vista Beta drivers on creative's website. If it doesn't work after the first installation, reinstall them and it should work.

As a note - the OP's links...

If you use IE to try to download direct, you'll usually get the "We're sorry" message. If you use FireFox, it seems to almost always download.

Or you could go to my thread in OT & use either a torrent for x86 & x64 or a direct DL of x64 from an ATers fast servers.

Which TV Tuner cards are people using with the Vista MCE? I'm looking at getting one, but I haven't been able to find any info on Vista compatible tuners.

I believe IE can't allocate files bigger than 2 GB. At least, that has been my experience. Opera has a 4 GB limit. FireFox has downloaded anything I have thrown at it, however. (I guess that is why they give you a download manager.)

D/L today just using the standard IE download Manager. Sustained around 700+kbs for the D/L. I then went ahead and built a VM using VM workstation and everything seems to be up and working fine. I assigned the OS 768 MB for RAM. It seems a little slugish but that would be expected in a VM. I think I might also D/L the office 2007 beta.

Forget the Office 2007 Beta. I downloaded and installed it and it is only good for 49 times and then features are disabled. Not worth the time or effort.
On a side note ....... it does look pretty cool though.

The great things about VM's is that you can test this stuff without messing up your main system. I went ahead and D/L the office 07 beta and installed it in the VM. The EULA indicates the software will stop functioning on Feb-07 so I will just wait and see what happens.

using it all day today, not too many problems with all the applications I want to run, and my games appear to be working so far.
Looks good, and runs well on my machine, no complaints.
