Windows Vista machine can't access shares in the domain

Hi,

We have four servers, two of the running Windows 2003 and the other two running Windows 2008. The domain controller is on the Win2k3 boxes. One of our client PCs cannot access shares on one of the servers (2008).

I have checked the users permissions to the share and they're all ok, he should be able to access them, but instead gets an error "Access Denied 0x80070005". Here's the kicker: If I logon with the same user name on a Win XP box, I can access the shares just fine. The problem lies with Vista.

He can access all remaining servers and shares. The PC is running Windows Vista 64 SP1.

Just a single machine having this issue? Any chance you have a policy restricting computer accounts that can access that server?

I don't have any restriction policies in place. This machine was able to access the share at one point, the problem started a few weeks ago. I don't know what to look for, it's been driving me nuts.

I just got a Win 7 machine up and running, and this one also is not able to access the shares. It's really strange, this is the only server both machines have problems with. I won't even asks for a password, it just refuses to connect.

I don't think you ever mentioned what versions of Vista and Win7 are on the "problem children". Are they joined to the Domain?

Are they joined to the domain
What network type did you select for your network connection on the problem box (work/public/home)
Can you ping the target machines
Can you access the admin share

Yes, I can ping the machines. Latency and/or dropped packets is not the issue.

The network type is set as Work.

Perhaps the "work" setting isn't allowing share access? I also know I couldn't access shared files and folders on my win7 comp from a winxp comp, because win7 had "password protected sharing" enabled. Not sure if that's relevant to the issues you're having though.
