Windows Vista / P5B / WinXP

I installed Vista Ulitmate on my new computer. E6600 P5B-Deluxe (no OC) 2x 500GB WD SATA HDD's and 2GB of Ballistix DDR2 - 800 memory, 1 DVD Burner and 1 DVD Reader drive, both IDE. It ran GREAT! But I had some very minor compatibility problems with some of my other hardware and older software. After about a week, I decided to revert back to WindowsXP.

WOW

I put the WinXP disk into my DVD-ROM drive and rebooted the computer. Wiped out the primary HDD and installed the Install files for WinXP. Then the computer rebooted, ran the POST, rebooted again, ran the POST, rebooted again...after the second unsuccessful reboot I checked my BIOS boot priority settings. Rearranged them a little and tried again. Same effect. Now I'm getting scared because I am thinking something is VERY wrong.

Luckily I got on my other computer and started to search for this issue. Most things required an FDisk of the HDD and some other solutions (all requiring a floppy drive [which I don't have] to work). Well, finally I go into the Windows Blue Screen setup utility and Qformat BOTH the primary AND secondary HDDs, voila, it worked. Wow. Then, after about three hours of getting everything back on the computer, and by that I mean all the WinXP drivers and updates, I tried to Ghost the drive. When the computer rebooted it wouldn't restart, and I lost everything on the primary HDD again. >.<

So now I have everything installed (on XP) just how I like it, but I'm afraid to ghost my HDD again. I have a fresh copy of Ghost 10. Should I be afraid? Any idea what was going on with the Rebooting or why I got a Stack Overflow error when PC-DOS started for the Imaging of my HDD to my backup HDD?

I was looking at that VistaBootPRO utility and wondering if that would have helped, but I couldn't see how. After that experience I'm afraid to do anything for fear of having to start over...again.

Thanks in advance.
J.

Did you delete the partitions before you formatted. I had the same problem when I tried to but XP back on my pc. Seems that Vista uses an entirely different boot file which makes it next to impossible to even try to dual boot.....good luck!!!!
