Did a clean install last night and so far it's running pretty smoothly. Haven't really encountered all the problems that people kept saying about Vista.

I might get an OEM version of Home Premium, but still want to make sure how licensing works if I change parts on my computer later.

Vista Basic Upgrade - $50.

I'm not going to install it yet though. I'm waiting for official drivers for my sound card, printer, and mobo chipset.

I'm also waiting for Trend Micro to release a Vista version of Internet Security.

I'm also waiting to buy a Athlon64 X2.

I'm getting it as soon an my University gets it, but then again I only have to pay 15 bucks, so price really isn't an issue

How do you get it for $15? I am a student and they are charging $85 for the Home Premium upgrade, which is still a good deal, but not near as good as $15.

just depends on the school. I got Enterprise version for free as a student. Also got Office 2007 for free among many other software items if I wanted them.

What school do you go to? I go to the University of North Texas, and I don't get any free software at all, at least not that I know of. Anyone else here go to UNT and know a way to get ultra-affordable software?

That is your problem right there!

I go to Youngstown State (Ohio). My guess is the University pays MS some money to get bulk cheap licenses like that. I've heard of a lot of Universities around not having the same deal. They offer Windows, Office, and Visual Studio .NET for less than 20 bucks each.

For those of you who bought the Retail version of Vista Ultimate......may I ask why you went with Ultimate over Home Premium?

With taxes, (14%) grand total is $178.98

Anybody else is getting Vista tomorow?

If so what version are you getting and at what price?

I hope this is not a repost.

I got home premium last night for $159

A few reasons...

-To learn the new features since I'm in the IT field and my company doesn't buy OS's for contractors.

-Shadow Copy/Previous Version A feature I have just been dying to have.

-The Family Upgrade Option. I still have a Media Center and a laptop to upgrade. Ultimate and 2 copies of Home Premium that way is cheaper than getting 3 copies of Home Premium seperately.

There are a few other minor reasons too, but these are the biggest.

Griffin, sounds like TechNet would have been a better option for you, since you want to test out many of the features.

I'm running Vista Ultimate for several reasons:

Ability to join a domain
Remote Desktop, which I use daily when I am away from home
Media Center for my eventual XBox 360 purchase
Shadow Copy, which I love in 2003 Server

On a second note, did anyone here go to the Cleveland MicroCenter midnight launch? I'm just curious as to how many people showed up?

I went earlier at around 5:30pm yesterday and picked up a shiny copy of Vista Home Premium OEM for my Dad, and they had no problems selling it to me early.

Almost verbatim what I would have said. I purchased the Ultimate upgrade because of these same reasons, to test it to it's fullest, and to take advantage of the 2 copies of Home Premium for $50 deal. Shadow copy is nice too, and I definitely hope I look back and wonder how I lived without it.
