  1. Windows will not load
(brief "Cliff Notes" description of the problem)

  2. I installed new 15.17 nVidia drivers for my mobo, EVGA 122-CK-NF68. I rebooted and can not get to Windows. After the splash screen, there is nothing. It is just a blank screen. The HDD lights ocassionally blink; I don't think it is hung. I just can not get to the log in screen. After using F8 to boot to safe mode, my keyboard and mouse would not work; I can't get into Windows to restore old drivers. Last know good config does not help either.

  3. Everything worked just fine until I installed the new drivers and rebooted.

  4. Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random? Problem is repeatable. The computer posts, then goes to Window's splash screen, then nothing. Just a blank screen.

  5. I already tried these steps: F8 before splash screen. Last know good config did not work. Safe mode, can not use keyboard or mouse.

  6. My software:
    • Windows XP Professional Edition with SP3
    • Antivirus n/a
    • Firewall n/a
    • Feel free to add more software details that you think might be relevant to the issue

  7. My hardware
    • EVGA 122-CK-NF68 p32 bios
    • Q6600 BSEL'd to 1333 FSB/3.0 GHz
    • XFX 8800 GT OC
    • OCZ SLI 2x1GB PC8500 1066MHz
    • Antec TPT
    • Feel free to add more hardware details that you think might be relevant to the issue

  8. Other information that might be relevant
(any other information that might be related to the problem)

I'd hit F8 to get into the startup menu, then select the option that I believe is called "start in VGA mode". Windows will load up using the basic VGA driver, not the nVidia driver. If it loads up, change the resolution to anything available that is compatible with your monitor, and reboot.

Your description sounds like the video driver is set at a resolution and/or refresh rate not supported by the monitor. If that is the only problem, then the steps above should fix it for you.

can you boot of any live CD? what's the make and model of monitor? I'd use Safe Mode to remove all drivers and if you have CCleaner installed run both of it's options to clean up after uninstall the nvidia drivers.

You must have my post mixed up with another post. Maybe if you fully reread it you would see that my kb and mouse will not work in safe mode.

I can boot off of the windows xp cd but I will only reinstall windows as a last resort.

If I were fixing this computer, I would make a full backup of the hard drive, then perform a repair install of Windows (this is different from "repairing Windows from the recovery console"). The backup would be in case the repair install doesn't work. If when it reboots and sets up you don't have keyboard control, forget about it.

Another option might be to try a usb keyboard if you can get your hands on one. Personally I've never worked with such a situation, so I'm just working through how I would handle it.

I remember not too long ago another person here was having trouble with a ps/2 keyboard / mouse not working in xp, I do not remember if he got it fixed or not. I'll try searching, but these are fairly generic terms for searching, might be hard finding it.

I had a usb originally then tried the ps/2 neither worked.

reset the bios, and trying getting into it and verifying all usb and PS2 options are enabled. Let me know if that does anything.

It is not the bios. The problem is a driver or something from the driver set 15.17. This also happened before with driver set 9.64; I just reinstalled Windows but I do not want to do that again.
I have installed a new drive with windows into the rig and have made the original boot drive the second drive. I have access to the original drive and just need to know which driver is the culprit , so I can delete or replace it.

This WinXP 32-bit nForce UDA driver package for CK804, MCP51, MCP55, MCP61, MCP65, MCP67M, MCP68, MCP73 consists of the following components:

Ethernet Driver (v67.80) WHQL
Network Management Tools (v67.81) "Sedona"
SATAIDE Driver (v10.3.0.21) WHQL
SATARAID Driver (v10.3.0.21) WHQL
RAIDTOOL Application (v10.3.0.21)
SMU Driver (v1.45) WHQL
SMBus Driver (v4.64) WHQL
Installer (v5.99)

If it were me, I'd eliminate everything without WHQL.

If that didn't work, I'd get rid of all of them.

Good Luck!

I am not sure which ones to delete/replace. I don't know the file names. Anyone know?

Ahhhh, AFAIK the names in your last post are the driver names?

Have you tried using a search in your "C" drive for those without the WHQL certification?

Sorry, I thought ya could.

When I do a search on mine using the driver's revision number, it'll bring up the driver files.

Good Luck!

Used Windows CD to repair Windows. Not the recovery console but used the install to repair Windows.
