Windows won't shut down

Recently I have installed winXP onto my new RAID0 HDD's(Maxtor diamondmax+10 SATA). Since doing this, i have had problems shutting down windows. When you go to shut it down, it starts to close programs and then goes through the "saving setting","Logging off" and "shutting down" screens. When it gets to the last screen, it can stay there for 5-10 minutes. I can't hear any activity from the HDD's so i'm assuming its just not turned itself off.

Other times when you go to shut it down, it close some programs but then doesn't close them all. It just stays there. You can continue to use any progs that it hasn't shut down but you can't launch any new ones because it says its shutting down.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? Any ways to stop it(or should that be start it)?

Also, anyone know why i have the same program running multiple times? I have (among others) CLI.exe running 3 times under my username.

i've actually had the same shutting down problem. i heard my hard drive spin down but the screen was still there and the computer itself was not shut off. it shut itself off correctly maybe 1 out of 5 times or so...it was inconsistent. eventually it went away and now it shuts down correctly. i have no idea how it fixed itself, but the one thing that could have done it for me at least is reinstalling the nvidia nforce drivers. i get the feeling it was my ethernet card somehow keeping things awry because i used to get some errors for it. whether that's actually possible, i don't know.
i don't know what to tell you for the second problem. as for the last, i think it's normal to have multiple cli.exe's running. i remember having that too.

Keep hitting the escape key to see if it does shutdown. That solution has worked for me in the past.

OR

Simply pull the power plug.

This reminds me of a cartoon of a man holding his computer's power cable and yanking it out of the socket just to show his PC who's the boss.

You can also try pressing the power button on the PC instead of using windows shutdown from the OS. Its usually faster.

If it hangs on shutdown then just press & hold the power button on the PC. After about 5 sec it will power down.
