Those Reseller Ratings for mostly higher priced stuff are scary. I may regret this, but I ordered Norton Systemworks 2003 for $9 shipped. Lowest price I could find anywhere.

Wait a minute Chester. I followed the link and saw this:

"CD & KEYCODE ONLY"

This lead me to believe that the one item that makes it a legitimate copy is not included and that would be the CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY.

Without it you have an illegal copy. This was for XP Pro by the way. You can buy a legitmate copy from NewEgg for $139, at least that's what I paid, and rest assured that it's legal. You can buy a Molex connector or something at NewEgg and get a $5 credit on your purchase so you are actually making a legit OEM purchase.

You can buy a "CD & KEYCODE ONLY" for about $39.95 through some Spam Russian website oem-cd.biz

If you're not going to bother to have a legitimate copy just find a BT site where you can DL it with a key.

You'll get it in a paper sleeve and a small manila envelope. I've ordered from them a couple of times (NSW) and always got the product. No shipping notification or DC and the packaging could be better but no broke CDs yet.

Hm... Seems like a nice deal, but I just don'y trust websites that give popups upon closing. Another thing, like Trashman said newegg has XP PRO for $137, there is a hardware requirement, but any $2 cable should satisfy it.

While the possibility is there that you're correct, I believe they're calling the COA a keycode. Not the first online store I've seen that uses that terminology for a COA.

What's really weird about this company is that they're offering the CD, booklet and COA
here for a higher price.

I believe if you wanted to take advantage of the posted deal, I'd take the time to make a phone call and ensure you're getting a COA.

On the bottom of that page they also state: "THE MANUFACTURER OF THIS PRODUCT WOULD PREFER THAT YOU ALSO BUY SOME HARDWARE TO GO WITH THIS OEM SOFTWARE." Isn't that a funny way of putting it? I mean, I know it's common with OEM software, but I guess I've never seen it so blatant.

iwth only 2 good reviews and the rest all disagree, me thinks that they reviewed themselves, to get a better rating. These prices seem unbelievable, but after reading petey117 post, i'll look elsewhere

Not true . . . it's gray-area for business but perfectly fine for home users.

$91 at #9 software who has been in business for YEARS and MS is well aware of them.

EDIT: Oops; this $91 was for Win2k but my POINt is you CAN buy XP or any win OS wtihOUT a COA and be legal and legit since the LICENSE is included on the CD.

I bought XP Home OEM from Newegg last week for $92. Comes with an audio cable and I know that Newegg is legit. If you don't need the box and book, just buy an OEM and get the CD, COA, and a piece of hardware. Am I missing something?

my 2 cents...

On the #9 web site they are selling XP pro COA for $79... This seems like a much better deal? I am confused here... Is the COA alone enough? help!

EDIT: OK I called them and this is just the certificate and cd-key (the COA has the CD-key stamped on it I guess). However, the #9 COA (Certificate of Authenticity) provided CD-key will ONLY work with the OEM version of Windows XP PRO installation CD. The standard Windows XP Pro installation CD (you know, the one you ripped from Kazaa or borrowed from a friend) will not accept this CD-key.

I am just looking to be legal as inexpensively as possible. It seems that this would do it, if I had the right installation media, which I don't.

This is legal as long as you have a legal key according to many legitimate websites:
Copy any XP install disk to your hard drive.
Then:
http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&safe=off&q=edit+pid++setupp.ini+windows+xp+oem++retail&btnG=Google+Search
Then, install from hard drive or burn modified install disk back to a CD and install.
