FWIW I am a system builder and service tech, therefore I do quite a few MS activations.

BTW your comment about Vista activation/transfer is incorrect as well. Please see this thread

We got off to kind of a bad start and I apologize, would just disconnecting the IDE ribbon screw things up? ( I think I had the DVD writer ready to come out of the 805 box)

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I was sweating it for awhile, I'm not a system builder, but I have been in the habit of changing CPU's, mobo's, etc ( it's kind of like a hobby, keeps me poor). I really did want to check out the Vista, as usual they can't be expected to please everybody. I saw the thing about only one upgrade and kind of freaked. Hey, is it true you might need 2 GB's of RAM? I realize the CPU has got to be strong (I think I've got that covered), but I've only got 1 GB of RAM. Would DDR2 RAM be better? One of these days I'd like to put a Core 2 Duo in the board the PD 805 is in (it's got 1 Gig of DDR2 667), it's a cheap Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA.
(maybe a E6400 or a E6300, I'm waiting to see what the E4300 turns out to be, only 800 FSB)

I bet any Pentium or Celeron (Core 2 based) would only give a better bang/buck, because it will be cheaper, but with a lower FSB and higher multiplier; they'll overclock to ridiculous percentages.
Right now we've got something like 80% OCs being pretty common with good HSFs and mobos. But I'm betting the Pentiums will cost half of what a C2D does, but will OC to maybe 200-400mhz lower than a C2D. Since they'll start with a lower mhz, we might see 150% OCs being do-able by the general enthusiast.
Granted, they'll be single-core, but it's still very interesting. Even if my guesses are all wrong, it'll still be interesting because then we'll finally see Netburst die off all segments of the market.

My thoughts exactly.

Edit: I stand corrected. I tried to activate my PD 805 again (3rd or 4th time), just for laughs, and "low and behold" it activated. If I over reacted I sincerely apologize. Now I can check out the new Microsoft OS called Vista, especially since they don't have the "one time activation different computer deal". Thanks John and this forum for straightening me out.
I kind of like this EdgyEft. It seems to boot faster and it seems to be very "user friendly". Not as user friendly as WinXP, Edgy still has too much command line stuff, but making progress (maybe in another couple of years, I can't look a gift horse in the mouth).
