windows xp and ata100

I am a beta tester for XP. I have an ata100 compatible motherboard with 2 30 hdds (abit ka7a-Raid), anyways i have both drives connected running on the ide connectors that support ata100.... Windows Xp is not seeing this as win2k didnt without a driver for the ata100(udma) support, but what do you use? i tried the win2k drivers from abit and they dont work.... anyone have any suggestions or do i have to use the standard ide controller

I used the HPT drivers( latest one from HPT site) for win 2k while installing and they work..

I wouldn't get too worried about it.... there are some easy ways to force windows to recognize and utilize ATA100, but it's really not worth it.

Even a faster ATA100 drive will not max out the ATA33 or ATA66 specification.

All ATA100 specifies is how fast the data gets transferred from the disks cahce it has nothing to do with how fast the disk is working and most real world benchmarks show that the effect of switching from ATA33 to ATA100 is negligible.

If you want a real performance bump, go with HW RAID 0.

do you have to use identical drives for raid or same size.

no.... if you use two different drives then you will be limited to the size of the smaller one.....

same size/model drive is recmd though.

you can mix, but it's kinda bad like mixing ram.
