Windows XP and drivers

I just reinstalled two boxes i buildt for friends some two years ago, and ran into alot of problems. When I installed windows xp, via 4-1, via usb filter driver, sp1, and all updates from windows update both systems rejected to install the soundcard properly. I reinstalled another almost exacly the same computer around easter and I didn't have any problems like that then.

When I reinstalled once again I made sure I installed the soundcard driver before sp1 and the windows update updates, and then it worked great.

The other problem I got now is that one of my friend got a digital camera, and its using the dsc format, or mass storage device through USB. But stupid windows XP doesn't want to install that driver either. I get a somewhat cryptic error message "the data is invalid". I have also tried with a usb memory key, a memorycard reader and the same thing happens all the time.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? I have tried alot of different things, but none seems to help. It would also be very interresting if some of you could replicate the problem.

All the other drivers have been installed great

Also tried the onboard soundcard with the same result

ok...lets get this right. You got the soundcard working right? I ran into the same problem with my old capture card. The software just didnt agree with sp1.


As far as the digital camera, what kind is it? Kodak's drivers are crap. I could only get them to work with their software, and it only worked about half the time then. I wish I could be of more help, but all I can tell you is to try and find an updated driver and see if that works. Also, try disconnecting that webcam, rebooting, then installing the drivers for the camera.

Yeah, after i reinstalled one more time it worked, but then I installed the drivers before sp1 and the rest of the updates from windows update.

The digital camera is a Fujifilm 304 or something like that. One of the newer ones with XD memory card.

I find it very strange that I can't use any mass storage device's with that particular system. Neither the camera, usb memorykey and a 6-1 memorycard reader/writer will work.
