Well I seem to be on a roll recently of making minor f@ckups with PC's for some reason unknown to me. Must be the alignment of the planets or suchlike!!!
Read on for the full story and if possible tell me how to sort the mess out
Well I built a new system for a friend of mine - the original plan (I assumed) had been to build it at my house where I have allsorts of stuff lying around - but anyway we built it at her house.
Problem number one - the received floppy disk did not work - not a problem really as we were installing Win XP though. I had intended on formatting the HD with a Maxtor program making partitions etc - but due to the floppy not working this was not possible
SO I then used the XP CD to format the HD assuming it would ask me to choose the various partition sizes...unfortunately it simply asked me to select the first partition size and then it proceded to install windows to it - well that was all well and good and I assumed that I would have a 10GB C: Drive and a 30GB D: Drive.
Wrong! I had a 10GB and nothing else - so - still only having the working CD drive - I decided to format the remaining 30GB with the Windows XP utility - now the problem was it would not only let me format the remainder of the drive it would format it and install a duplicate installation of XP
So - some time later I now have a dual XP boot system up and running - no sweat I think - Format the D: partition.
Well that seems to do the trick - however - on Post/Boot the choice is still there for both partitions
If you allow the PC to boot normally and choose the installation - yes you have guessed - it chooses the deleted windows installation.
Right now the lower listing must be chosen to boot the machine.
So after all of this text - how do I get rid of the "ghost" XP installation at Post/Boot?
Help!
