Ok, this is really bugging me. I go to edit my files, and I get an error message saying that the file is in use. I have no other programs open, and I make sure to close down all non essential tasks in the task manager, but I get the same message. The real bummer is that it only happens in one folder, and I often crash explorer.exe when I have the folder open. Is there any way I have a virus in just that one folder? Thanks in advance.

The problem can be caused by a hard drive error.

In XP open a DOS window. At the prompt type CHKDSK /F. You will get a message next time you boot up CHKDSK will check your hard drive partition for errors. Should fix HD errors if there are any. You have to run CHKDSK /F on each partition for it to be checked for errors next time you boot up. A light blue screen comes up during boot up and starts running CHKDSK \F on each selected partition.

Read the on screen text as it starts to run Chkdsk. There are a few seconds delay before it starts checking the partition so do not touch any keys until the computer finishes booting up.

sounds like that folder needs to be scandisked (like above says) then defragged. i have had this happen to me in folders where i have a lot of file sharing utilities download stuff, after a while the HD gets "tired" i guess.

Many times the problems some complain about with Windows is nothing more than an error on the hard drive. If that happens just run ScanDisk in ME or older, or in XP run CHKDSK /F will solve those seemingly unsolvable problems.
