Windows XP lags at boot...

my windows xp recently started to lag at boot. if i wait about 2 minutes everything then loads fine. but, i have to wait about 2 minutes before i can really use it. it loats up fine, but then, it just pauses. if i try to do something, it won't do it until the 2 minutes are up. powerstrip and other apps won't activate till the 2 minutes are up. i think it may be my norton av scanner, which was designed for win2k, but i'm not sure. the only program i see before lag, and that is gone after the lag is done with is Nava32pw.exe or somethin like that. it hink it is the Norton AV.

i have noticed this also. it started happening after i connected it to another computer (cross over directly to another nic). sees the p00ter fine, just takes a bit longer to boot now.

Microsoft have a utility to optimise your boot time from NTLDR to Desktop, it's called BootVis. I managed to decrease my boot time from 42 to 30 seconds. Definitely worth a try.

To speed up viewing of shares on a network, Tweaktown have a registry tweak here..

Try looking at your services during this long pause, one service may be causing the delay.

A friend of mine says his three systems XP network takes time for it to recognize all computers in his home network. If you have SCSI cards and drives those take extra time to be found by the system also.

XP by itself boots up fast. Some of the hardware you may have installed slows down the bootup process.
