Windows XP Licensing Question


I?ve bought two full versions of Windows XP Profession over the last two years. Unfortunately I need another copy again for my laptop. Question I have is, I now get a student rate on the upgrade version of Windows XP Pro, but unfortunately they don?t sell the full version which I need the most. Is it possible to use the full version CD I already have and use the new key from the upgrade version to establish a legit version of Windows XP Pro?

in all likely hood......it won't work. and that would violate the agreement of "one OS - one system".

an alternative you might consider is picking up an oem package; seen one advertised for $159 (XP Pro, full package), forgot the link but if you want me to look back for it, drop me a pm.

This belongs in OS or software, but it should nonetheless work.

As far as OEM versions go you can get them for $141 or so at googlegear and just a buck or two more at NewEgg. But for OEM versions you must purchase some peice of hardware as well. So that will add to the cost.

You may just want to call MS and ask them if you can do the but upgrade key and install with full CD. Unfortunatly I don't know the answer to your question.
