Windows XP Licensing

Is it true that every time we change a processor or mainboard on a Windows XP system, Windows will die and we will have to pay a new license fee to restart Windows XP? That sounds almost like engineering products to break early after purchase to force you to get a new one.. :|:disgust: Many people here upgrade mainboards/processors etc many times each year so... could be 'pensive if true.

this would only be the case, if they do decide to go with the new subscription charges, like has been mentioned.. of course this was also mentioned with office xp, and ms backed off after the negative reaction..

but in theory.. if it did happen.. you would have to register your copy with microsoft.. and that number would correspond with your hardware.. if you changed processors, you would probably have to call ms and let them know, so they can issue you a new number (of course there would be no charge because it would fall under the original price)

but thats only on the long shot that this subscription idea ever actually goes into effect

and of course, its easy enough to change the line in the registry that would check this information..

Not true...the &quot;number&quot; is based off of 5 major hardware components. You will be able to change 3 of those without having to call or deal with them at all.

AFAIK the subscription option is ONLY an OPTION.

You would have to call MS for free and get a new free key for your current install.

Sounds like MS wants to know who is running what hardware. I don't like anyone knowing anymore about me then I want them to.

yep i flashed my bios...and when i try to boot up windows xp...it says unknown bios!!! WTF?! :|

Says who... .if its in their EULA then they can do whatever the hell they want to if you agree to that contract by running their software.
