Windows XP partitioning tool?

Does XP have a built in tool which allows you to resize and convert disk partitions? If so, where is it located?

Yes it does, but it doesn't have resizing capabilities. It does however allow creating, deleting, and formatting partitions. Also lets you change drive letters.

Right click on the My Computer icon, goto Manage, when the window comes up pick Disk Management.

the only way your going to get resizing is with a program like partition magic.

There are actually more things that can be done via the command line. I can't remember for sure but you may even be able to resize and convert between NTFS and FAT32. Look it up in the MS Knowledgebase, thats where I found it before.

convert volume: /fs:ntfs
this will convert a drive to NTFS from FAT, it does not allow you to resize or change from NTFS to FAT however.

Not that bad, about $70 for the newest version. I think they have a "trial" version available for download too.

When you do an initial install of XP, it will ask what size you want your partition on the boot drive. You can select a smaller partition than the full drive, and then utilize the remainder using the disk management in XP Pro.
