Windows XP Pro OEM Paradox......

If I bought Windows XP Pro for a new computer and later upgraded the MOBO, RAM, and CPU, would I still be able to reinstall it, or would it consitute for a new PC? Because I'm pretty sure such an upgrade would count as a new PC to install the OEM, but it would still be the same PC if you upgraded it... Anyone know the answer to this?

i didn't even know you could buy XP Pro OEM. the entire point of OEM is to sell cheap software only mean for 1 computer's use. the point of buying XP Pro is to install the OS on multiple computers with the same key. i know that in the case of XP Home OEM, you cannot reinstall it, it tells you the CD key is bad and you end up having to use a crack.

as for upgrading hardware, you CAN do this. i've changed the video card and secondary hard drive on my XP Home OEM computer and it never gave me any problems so i doubt XP Pro will give a problem.

Then what should become of the OEM copy? No one can install it ever again? I think your alright man. As long as it's not installed on another machine and you have at least one piece of hardware from the original system.

No, you are being fed a big line here. Reinstall fine. Worst case, when you go to activate, if it fails, use the toll-free number and call it in. Simply explain that you upgraded your system.

You apparently don't know the difference between the Pro and Home versions of XP, both of which are available as OEM. Start here for that lesson.

(What you described is more of a difference between OEM and Corporate/Volume Licensed versions...)
