Windows XP Professional x64 Edition: Drivers, Free Trials, and Availability

Anyone having trouble getting COD2 going in win64? Mine runs but if it's anything above 800x600 it's dog slow.

My system:

A64-3000
2 gigs ram
GF6600gt
2x200GB Seagate (RAID 0)

So, I don't think it's my hardware that's the problem. I'm using the 77.77 nvidia drivers.

the "informative thread" link does not work..

i'm very curious to see if running windows with 64 bits offers any performance improvement.
my tests have not yielded any better results, and i'm quite disappointed!

Unless the software you are running was specifically designed for x64, you're likely to not see any improvements over 32-bit software. So far, very few software applications have been rewritten to take advantage of x64 and thus are just x64-eneabled to allow them to run on x64 systems natively.

One such app that has been rewritten and optimized for x64 is SQL 2005. It provides a huge performance increase over its 32-bit sibling.

That is a very vague statement and can mean almost anything. "likely"? And how do you determine if it was specifically designed for x64?

Likely, as in there isn't going to be a big difference between an x64 program and and x32 program. Take for example a hypothetical Microsoft Office compiled to support x64. You're likely to not see any noticable performance improvements because it doesn't even tax an x32 system.

Like I said before, SQL 2005 was re-written to support x64 and does have a noticable performance increase when compared to x32 under more demanding data scenarios. Other programs may not be so obviously written to support x64 and may have just been recompiled to support x64 in addition to x32.

I just bought a Canon ip4200 printer and the drivers work fine.

Creative has already told me that they will never release a 64-bit driver for my webcam (webcam3 - I guess a few years old).

I just bought a TV tuner card, I guess I should ask MSI for 64-bit drivers while it is newish.

I think most companies will want you to have hardware that is less than a year old.

It would seem that way ATM. Perhaps they just ran out of keys and haven't generated any more yet, they've had that problem once before.

The MSI TV tuner I just bought does not have 64-bit drivers. My Creative webcam is OLD and will never have 64-bit drivers. I am am not going to downgrade unless this situation changes.
I am really mad about the TV tuner, I am disappointed about the webcam but I'm not surprised.

I suppose that you owned the Epson perfecttion 3490 before you installed Win x64?

As far as I can tell, the only 64bit drivers for Epson printers are available from Edpon, or are on the Win x64 install CD.

Did you try connecting the printer to the box, turning it on, and then see if Win x64 can see it? Or, connect the printer, turn on it's power, and then restarting Win x64? You will know if the CD has proper drivers.

Otherwise, your only alternative is to wait for Epson to develop the drivers.

There is a generic driver for the MSI TV@nywhere somewhere. I've seen it somewhere on the net and have tried it out. It's not perfect, but it works.

As far as I know, only TV tuners using certain BrookTree tuner chipsets have 64bit drivers for Win x64.

As for webcams, Creative Labs's WebCam Instant and WebCam Live have 64bit drivers for Win x64.

Alternatively, try using a miniDV camcorder as your webcam. If your miniDV can be seen by Win x64, you can probably use it for video conferencing in MSN Messenger. In addition, you would be able to use Windows Movie Maker with it.

So, just connect the miniDV via the 1394 ports, and see if Win x64 sees it.
