And here I did the upgrade thinking I would get it faster than waiting for OEM's to show up in retail. I think I'm going to try and cancel my upgrade now and just buy an OEM copy.

A-Mazing ! - that's got my HP PSC2200 running like a clock.
All the drivers in that package worked fine.

Now for the PC CAM-600 from Creative & My Minolta DiamageXi
& everything will be solved. (at least for my system)

Quick question, and I did look through this thread and I did not find any direct answers. I just built myself a new AMD 64 system and I'm currently using a Dell non-64 system with Windows XP Pro 32-bit. I seriously do not plan to use my Dell anymore with Windows XP Pro, so can I upgrade my license to Windows XP 64 and install it on my new machine? The only reason I ask is that I don't want to try this and find out at Activation it wants my Dell non-64 system instead of my new AMD 64 system.

Forgot to mention, the copy of Windows XP 32-bit I have is an OEM copy that did not come with the Dell, I bought it separately with a piece of hardware.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah you can exchange that oem xp pro key into a xp 64 pro key. They will expect that you are going to install it on a 64 system, and won't make you verify what computer you are using to upgrade.

Here is the link to exchange

Who knows? All the upgrade orders are still pending, no one is sure why. It still sounds like they'll ship this month though.

yeah, my PSC-2100 works great with the new pre-alpha drivers from HP. In fact, ironically, the stupid 200+MB bloatware "official" drivers in windows XP caused nothing but problems with my printer, causing it to print blank pages and just generally be a resource hog. These 15MB drivers, on the other hand, are nice and simple, and get the job done just great. So this is probably the first case of a driver problem in 32-bit actually being fixed in x64, lol.

Now, if only 1) ATI would come out with a friggin WDM capture driver for their TV Wonder cards (apparently the AIW cards work with 3rd party apps like winDVR, but no such luck for stand alone cards), 2) Logitech would release Setpoint drivers for my Desktop MX, 3) AVG would come out with their free antivirus for x64, so i can stop using avast (not a bad AV app, but it seems to hog more CPU than AVG and configuration is easier in AVG), and 4) Daemontools/Alcohol 120% gets ported to x64, then I would be perfectly happy.

Oh, BTW, Microsoft just revised their upgrade policy - it now applies to DIYers as well as OEM buyers. Basically, all you need is to give them a Certificate of Authenticity OR a valid CD-Key, plus $12, and they will mail you a new copy of x64. I'll probably do this just for the hell of it, in case my Corporate Edition runs into WGA authentication problems.

I also have a MSI K8N Neo Platinum, can I use the drivers that came with it or do I need to find the 64bit drivers?

Dear Megatomic,

As a small measure of our appreciation for your help in testing Windows Server SP1 and Windows x64 on the Technical Beta, we are offering active participants a complimentary full copy of Windows Professional x64 Edition. This will be done as a downloadable ISO file only, but will be a licensed copy of Windows Professional x64 Edition. (i.e. not an eval copy)

Right now we are making final preparations to have the download, product keys, and other necessary infrastructure. You should expect this offer in the next few weeks.

Thank you.

Windows Beta Team

Tip of the day/week/month/whenever I decide to put out another one:

Just because you're on XP64 doesn't mean you can't enjoy some of the benefits XP32 users do. For example, MS just released a new WMP patch that enables hardware WMV acceleration. Now the installer for it won't let you directly install it(this is the wrong OS after all), but that won't stop the ingenious computer user.

To install it, all you need to do is extract the installer archive, then copy wmvcore.dll, wmvdmod.dll, and wmp.dll to Windows\SysWOW64 and to Windows\system32\dllcache. Then in RegEdit, under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\VideoSettings, create a DWORD called "EnableDXVA_WMV" and give it a value of 1. Bingo, and now your WMP is WMV-accelerated. On my A643400+@2.5ghz w/X800Pro, CPU usage dropped from ~70% to ~40%, a significant amount.

That is a nice tip. We need an automated way of doing these things so I will work on a script to do it. Nice tip!

The status of my order on the MS web site still says "pending". Anyone who submitted for the exchange have any better luck yet, or anyone know when MS is going to ship these things? :disgust:

You need MS's stuff if you want a valid key to use when Windows Update v5 goes in to full effect later this year, and those copies will be normal OEM Pro, not corporate like so many pirated copies are.

So, I just upgraded to XP Pro-64, are there any 64bit anti-virus programs out there? Or, am I stuck running a 32 bit one for now? I see Avast free supports 64bit, but is it any good?

There's a good reason it is still a preview. You have to manually install its control panel, and once you do you still won't have sound in all games (I miss atleast 50% of the sounds in SWAT 4, and the driver readme file states that I can forget about Unreal Tournament).

This is after developing these drivers for over a year? What are Creative doing? Have they forced their developers to type using only their nose?

I'm getting another soundcard. And it isn't a Creative. I'm sure it'll be every bit as buggy, but atleast I'll be supporting an underdog.
