Hello!

I downloaded the trial version of Windows XP64 and I have a question, I have a Pentium 4 3,2 Ghz and I would like to know how I can find out if it's one of the the Pentium 4 5x1 series, the Pentium 4 6xx series, or the Pentium Extreme Edition(i.e. the dual-core EE chips)? Meaning, I wonder if I'm able to run the OS on my current CPU

Thank you!

Thank you, it says it's 540, and in the post it said 5x1, so I'm guessing it won't work with Windows XP64?

I have the DFI Lanparty NF3 250Gb mobo and i'm having loads of trouble with 64bit windoze....

Everything is fine as far as running it, but the ethernet drivers and the sounds drivers aren't compatible with it yet so....i'll just have to wait it out i suppose....

Does anyone here have the same mobo as me?? If so, does ur net, or sound drivers work???

Thanks, Jordan

I'm running the DFI Lanparty NF3 250Gb UT on XP64. Don't have any problems. Drivers are fine. Which drivers did you load?

I have the same chipset, which is what matters nowadays. Nvidia's terrible driver support means there aren't any official nforce 3 ethernet or sound drivers for xp64 that aren't beta.

Is anything about XP64 going to be BETTER than its 32-bit counterpart?

Honestly, the only huge difference I've noticed as far as the OS goes is that explorer is much, much faster at opening/browsing directories with more than 100 files. Also, my file compression and decompression speeds seem much faster, although I haven't benchmarked it.

BAH...

I don;t find x-64 worth it anymore lol...

Btw, if you have nforce3 and have troubles with NVRAId, go in the mobo forums and look for my thread

it was mentioned in the original post that cygwin could be made to work with WinXP 64 if it was forced to use the 32-bit console...

anyone know how to do that?

thanks!

You have to start up the 32bit console manually, then use it to start Cygwin.

I have successfully used Pdf995 7.43s to create PDFs on XP64. It's adware, but works nonetheless. After all, 64-bit printer drivers are still hard to come by.

My 64-bit Windows wishlist:

Real printer drivers (Dell 1600n here)
ext2/3 installable filesystem driver (latest ext2fsd driver supporting XP64 doesn't work for me)
Macromedia Flash
Media player and codec (LAME, etc.)
Office apps
DAEMON Tools (although FantomDVD seems to work)
...

I've emailed Canon and Hauppauge requesting driver support for my i850 printer, CanoScan 3200F scanner, and WinTV-150 tv card. I'm running an Epox 9NPA+Ultra with a 6600 GT and everything else is as smooth as silk.

I was able to temporarily get the i850 to work using the BJC-8000 built-in OS drivers. I've read that the 9000 drivers will work for i9xx series printers too in case someone else is looking for a temporary solution.

Canon will likely respond to you, but it will be a cold day in hell before Hauppauge does.

Canon responded to 1 of my inquires; it concerned the i850. I sent another separate one about the 3200F that I never heard back about. I sent them to "remind" them that their customers require supported drivers. I could always send an email to Hauppauge once a week until I get some response from them

UPDATE:
I just received a response from Hauppauge a moment ago. In my original email I requested they provide Win XP Pro x64 driver support for my WinTV-150. Here is the single-line response:
From what I understand?very soon

Humm, looks like this year's Winter Olympic Games are taking place in Hell. I'm glad to see they're finally saying something.

I saw someplace else that they had told someone that they would be available by the end of August... but as we can see that didn't materialize like we had hoped!

I did get a second reply to my Canon requests today. Just like the first one, blah blah we heard you... blah these are supported, these are not... (supported ones are 5x as expensive as what I paid for my printer/scanner)

I got a trial version of xp64 when they first were offered-180 day trial period or so it says on package-I am about to go amd64 and use the trial software- but want to make it with that until Vista retails and go directly to that- can you reinstall the trial version and get another free 180 days or are you SOL until you buy regular version or windows xp 32 bit?
