You guys are so funny. Can always tell who's the unpopular person at your office. Smart, and tells everyone they are smart, but aren't exactly "smart."

I still cannot believe any non-corporate users are still on XP. I kicked XP to the curb after five minutes with Vista. VISTA. XP is so preposterously outdated on all fronts. It feels like using Windows 3.11 at this point.

It may be outdated but it was the first Windows that wasn't a disaster. It actually was reasonably stable and generally worked.

They didn't and will not put a kill switch in. That would make them vulnerable to lawsuits.
They can leave it behind, and let the community rip it apart, which is long overdue.

Imagine the REAL progress that can be attempted when you can leave having to write legacy code for a 12 year old OS behind.

I am not an Apple fan, but every 5 years or so that retire an OS fully.

time for MS to do the same.

That's because for apple the is not the product. They are, shockingly, an American company that makes software to make money selling its hardware. Pretty weird.

Resorting to judging someone's personality at work by their forum posts? :awe: You must be "self employed".

Windows 2000 says Hi. Not only could it use the same drivers, it was supported all the way up to Windows 7 launch.

Win 2000 was a real pain. You kind of had to be a techie to use it. Win XP isn't all that bad. It needed a restart every now and then unlike Win 2000 which needed one every few days or more.

There are some computers at work still using XP and as a user it makes really no difference whether it's XP, or 7. 8 makes a difference because it requires relearning - unnecessarily. However 8.1 which can be set to boot to desktop is manageable. However it too does dumb things like dump you into some RT app when opening a file in the desktop.

Eventually there will be security by obscurity. It's fun to take a Win98 + Netscape VM online and try to crash it with malware/viruses. It's shockingly difficult, perhaps because the stuff in the wild is targeting 2K/XP+ now for the most part.
