The only issue i have is it not protecting outbound. I was looking at finaly getting rid of zone alarm but if this firewall can't filter and protect outbound then it's of no use to me. I worry more about what goes out of the computer "mainly because a lot of programes loves to be sneaky" then thoes that comes into the computer.

I'd feel a lot better about this if MS stuck to upgrading OS related functions and left component enhancements to 3rd parties. ICF is a perfect example of what I mean.

Maybe. Maybe not. It's a pity, though, that Microsoft can't seem to win no matter what they do. Some people feel the same way you do. Others think Microsoft should add things, like pop-up blocking or tabbed browsing, for example. Sometimes people are right, sometimes not. In any event, SP2 will be a much needed boost in security and features. ICF is a perfect example of what MS should continue to update. Many people do not use a 3rd party firewall, especially before they perform the needed software updates to their OS. This minimal protection is certainly better than none.

It would be nice to have the option for a "critical" security related service pack and a "recommended" type service pack ...and perhaps a "gratuitously ridiculous unecessary" service pack to help keep the bloat to a minimum.

Yep, and in another 3 years IE may get tabbed browsing, too!

Microsoft's methods for doing the actual updates is pretty good. The service pack is probably much more then just packs, it's probably changes out some fundamental parts of the OS, the update for IE may be required because of a change elsewere and is needed for it to function properly, maybe. The main thing that is irritating is how they sneak liscencing changes into stuff like that. Like in the service packs for w2k that granted MS extra rights to scan your computer for unauthorized/unliscenced software, stuff like that.

Agreed, Tab browsing is the one missing feature in IE but im sure MS could have included it, if they had then there wouldnt be any reason to have 2 diffrent browsers anymore (im using IE and Firebird)

Wouldn't the implemented pop-up blocker be another step to monopolization of the industry? What will happen to useful programs like Admuncher? Ofcourse, anyone not using XP can still use them, so it's all good I guess.

I've never been one to argue about the monopolization thing; I just thought of it for some reason...*shrug*

I'm sure theres tons of free popup blockers so I doubt any commercial ones could stay afloat anyway.

This was the basic point of my first post. For example, people complain that IE doesn't have pop-up blocking integrated. I'd be interested to know how many of these same people that complain IE doesn't have integrated ad blocking were also complaining about IEs integration into Windows. It would be funny (at least to me; I find hypocracy funny) to see how many people are on both sides of the "integration issue" I bring up.
