Windows XP thrashing my HDs.

Hi all, just wondering if you can help me... let me know what information you require, i'm using an Abit KT7A-RAID motherboard, a Thunderbird 1GHZz processor, 768 megs of ram, swap file set at 1024max 1024min. My hard drive is a western digital. The problem is this... i have disabled a lot of the startup services etc. from my harddrive, I do not know which of the current processes i need to in turn disable from running durring windows, but something is spinning the harddrive. I get the harddrive flashing lightly every second on the dot, and occasionaly i get a larger burst. When in games and other things I get occasional 'studders' for no aparent reason. If anyone can suggest something that may solve my problem under WindowsXP it would be greatly apreciated. I was having none of these problems under windows98SE.

Your swap file is set far too high for one thing, that will make the hard drive work harder.

Windows XP constantly monitors your harddrive. It keeps all your most used programs toward the center of the disk for faster seek times,and looks for errors to correct,thus no need for ScanDisk to be run by user. I am running Windows XP and my HDD light flashes once every second like yours. Perfectly normal.

well for one, I also notice it occasionaly blinks on my CD burner... and i seem to get a lot of acess to the HD and even occasionaly chopyness with the HD's light on in some games.
