I need a little help on some driver selections for XP64. I DL'd the Nforce4 standalone kit from Nvidia which includes:
Audio driver 4.60
Audio utilities 4.51
Ethernet driver 4.68
IDE (RAID) driver 4.75
Network Management application 4.68
SMBus driver 4.45
Installer 4.60

What else do I need to add to complete my basic system drivers, or are there recommendations outside of these that are better?

My Basic rig:
Mobo: DFI Nforce4 Ultra-D
CPU: AMD 3000 venny
Vid: MSI Geforce 6600GT
HD: 160 GB Seagate IDE with SATA adapter
Mem: Mushkin Blue 2x512
DVD\RW: NEC 2500-A
DVD: Toshiba SD-m1402

Also, is there a bios recommendation outside of whats included with the mobo? I have looked through alot of threads but still have some confusion.

Simple question... Is Longhorn still available for download? I checked all over MS and can't find much info. I'm guessing they closed it down already but figured i'd ask.

TIA

Does anyone know if AMD is going to release a CPU driver that enables Cool 'N' Quiet for XP x64, similar to how they had to release a CPU driver for XP 32-bit? I posted on this thread a few months ago asking if anyone had gotten Cool 'N' Quiet to work for XP x64, and no one had been successful. As far as I know, there has been no progress since, mainly because AMD still hasn't released an appropiate CPU driver. Do you think AMD's waiting for the official release or something? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Bump.

I got it working by simply installing AMD Cool'n'Quiet / PowerNow! Dashboard Demo (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Tec...lResources/0,,30_182_871_9706,00.html) and setting Power Management to minimal. The built-in CPU driver will do the job fine. The only thing that may bother you is the fact that the dashboard won't work at all. xD

I verified this with CPUZ and Asus Probe x64 and it really does work. Don't forget about the appropriate BIOS settings, too.

I don't think longhorn has ever been available for download from MS, that's the next version of Windows due sometime next year, or the year after.

The preview program for Win XP 64bit edition RC2 has closed now, from this link

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/evaluation/upgrade.mspx

'While you can no longer register to receive the Customer Preview Program Kit or the trial downloadable software for RC2, we expect the full-release version of the preview kit and the downloadable trial software to be available soon.'

Sounds like there'll be a 60-day trial version or something soon.

well, x64 is officially launched today - too bad Microsoft's being retarded about their trade-in policy. Has anyone seen this?

Rediculous. So all of us who built our own systems and who have valid windows copies are just screwed? Honestly, what percentage of people bought prebuilt 64-bit systems? Oh, well, I'm going to have a copy one way or the other, so either they can give it to me, or I'll just get a pirated copy. This actaully leads me to believe Intel really is running the show here, since Intel just released their 64-bit chips (coincidence?) and Intel is the main provider of prebuilt systems, while AMD is more DIY.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. The page you linked to says this:
If you built your PC yourself or have purchased it through a system builder, you can make the exchange through the link to the right.
That seems to contradict what you're saying.

Looks like MS wants a $12 shipping fee however. I was hoping for just a free download, with an accompanying exchange of COA's. Has anyone gotten the X64 final version from the MSDN route? I think it's available that way. How do they handle the COA's in that situation?

If I trade in my 32-bit XP to 64-bit XP, does this mean I can't revert back to my 32-bit copy if I find that things aren't working well in the 64-bit world (like do they disable the 32-bit XP serial number)?

Yes, that is correct. However you can order a 120 day trial edition (for $6 + tax) which will allow you to see if you want to stay with X64 or not.

Just an FYI, I'm going to replace this thread with a new one for the final release of XP64 later today, so don't be shocked if this disappears.
