quit your bitching. this is one perk of working retail. if its not important enough to make you quit your current job and go work retail, then just be happy that you have a job you enjoy.

I jumped on this a little too late I think..

All I see are some PC and Xbox games, which can be a good deal if combined to save on shipping.

Anyone know if they'll put XP back up?

Thanks

I'm a network technician at the University of Kansas. While I wouldn't consider us "retail", we sell products (Network cards, cable, etc...) I don't think any microsoft products though. Am I eligible for this stuff?

On a somewhat related note, I just noticed that their XBOX selection has improved somewhat and Halo is up there for 1,000 points. Not a bad deal (assuming you have an XBOX). Hopefully the PC Halo will be available when it comes out in stores (or maybe it'll even be available in their Holdiay Training Prize Pack this Xmas - last year I got AOM and Dungeon Siege out of that training completely free - didn't even have to pay shipping). Freelancer is tempting as well.

Also, I noticed that they put up Age of Mythology. From what I've heard it is a cool game, but I'm not sure I want it bad enough to pay $10 shipping on it. (yes, I'm cheap) Hopefully another good game will come along and/or Office XP??

When the prize shop first opened WinXP was 1500 and OfficeXP was 2000. This site has had quizes since last year sometime because I started taking the quizes last summer. I had 8000 points when the prize shop opened a few months ago. Here was my order and total

Thank you for your order. You can track the status of your order by going
to http://www.microsoft.com/retail/training/prizehistory.asp.
1 Office XP Professional
4 Windows XP Professional

Your credit card was charged $43.05.

If you don't sell Microsoft Hardware or Software do you think that you should be eligable to be rewarded for learning how to sell those items? I think the answer is fairly obvious, if you want to be honest with yourself and them. I highly doubt more than half of the people who take advantage of this are even working in retail however.

If a cat is hit by a car in front of my house and only gets its tail chopped off..and I hot glue it back on...
then does that make me a re-tailer?

A simple no would have done. You and a few others in this thread need to quit being complete dicks to people who are just curious if they are eligible for this deal or not. Hmmm.... who would Microsoft rather lose money on? Someone who works on XP networks for a living and works directly with thousands of students to get their XP systems on the campus network (me), or some 18 year old working as a night stocker in the grocery dept. at Target. I understand their reasons for giving retailers a discount, I was just unsure where they drew the line and who was eligible. It's more valuable to Microsoft for me to like the OS and to speak highly of it to their customers that I work with than it is for the 18 year old stated above. See my point?

Lighten up

Haha... if I got that pissed off about your post, I'd be way too uptight and would need to get a sense of humor. I edited the post to get the contect correctly. You posted that while I was typing my original reply. I don't think we sell any Microsoft products in the Network dept., but I'm sure as hell going to check when I go to work tommorow. If we sell any microsoft products am I eligible or do we have to sell XP Pro?

I think you might be confused about what the retail training ensues... it's a number of applets that teach you about MS products and how to sell them to specific target groups. If you don't sell MS products, theres little reason for them to pay you to learn how.

So in other words, no.

However, if you feel that knowing how to sell most of MS's products inside and out would help you push their product at your retail location, then yes I think it's worth trying.

Edit: The stuff they teach you to sell is largely games, and a lot of focus on Office/Windows XP, and fairly minimal hardware. I think it's best suited for Target/Kmart/BestBuy type places from the content. Selling WinXP alone would be a stretch... but hey, I'm not the MS police.
