WinMe Troubles

I have just completed networking my two computers to share files and a printer. Both have windows Me installed with all the latest updates from Microsoft web site. Both now take about 90 seconds more to bootup than they did before a network was established. I have asound 10/100 ethernet PCI cards on each with a crossover cable tying the computers together. Does anyone know what I can do to decrease the boot time? Has anyone run into this before?

Give each computer a hard-coded IP address. Popular suggestion would be 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 both have subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Default Gateway, DNS, and any other value is not significant, leave 'em blank.

Some of the pause may be the computers looking to get an "automatic" address.

try setting "Browse Master" to "Disabled" under "File & Print Sharing" in the "Network" "Control Panel" but if you keep the machine on 24/7 or something close to it, set it as Enabled.

I appreciate the help. I changed the IP addresses as you suggested and presto! Boots up great everything is back to normal.
