Or it's like the incredibly over engineered pinewood derby cars where it's all dad. Perhaps it was the kid clicking around on something less expensive who figured this out, but no doubt dad was the one who realized it was a nice way to get a 3090. An 11 year old kid is probably playing Minecraft or Fortnight. They wouldn't need a 3090 unless dad is rich enough not to care.

The pinewood derby example totally hit home for me! ROFL. I definitely finished last in the derby.

This is so old....

And that poor kid is now going to be the subject of bullying.
Idiot reporters wanting a good story, and not think of any recourse in the actions it will bring out.

Not for a crypto-miner, LOL.

I do admit it would be hilarious if the kid was a miner and actually bought it with his own money. The feel-good PR story is really just to deflect that he used this scheme 78 times before reporting it so he could fill the rest of his second shipping container to better capitalize on his existing business investments.

Bullying?

I'd be asking that kid if I could come over to his house to play!

thats not how 11 yr olds think...

Its simular to when little kids at the elementry school started to carrying LV backpacks as regular backpacks.
The teachers started to bring hell on the parents asking if they had any social values, as they were subjects of being socially bullied and labeled rich.

The students would make fun of them, or exploit them even because they are automatically labeled "Rich".
Little kids are very brutal these days compared when you and even i grew up at.

Maybe you grew up in some magical time when kids weren't essentially hyenas on two legs, but I can't say that everyone I grew up around couldn't have been a natural fit for Lord of the Flies. We were all perfectly capable of being little monsters for no good reason.

That said I can't recall that anyone ever caught crap for having something cool. Maybe that was just because no one was a rich kid or anything like that, but maybe we were all too young to really understand that and there wasn't an internet to tell us otherwise.

These are other guys who are winning, snailbot , looking at their amazon posts makes one red...
Their 'monitor' for the pedestrian service though the manual hit rate is pretty low now for anything:

Now that's really winning. Risky, too, somewhat, given that ETH mining is supposed to go away early 2022 with "The Merge".

He's got 94 RTX 3090 cards to ROI, can they do it?

Sounds like a word problem they can solve in math class.

"Billy just purchased 40 6600XT cards to mine with at $600 each. Assuming that each has a hash rate of 30 MH/s and draws 75W of power, how many months will it take Billy recoup his initial investment if he pays $.22 per kilowatt hour in electricity costs and the price of ETH remains stable at $3,500?"

And for bonus points:

"Assuming Billy is comfortable with a 6 month ROI, what is the maximum price he should pay for a 6600 XT given the above conditions and how loud will PC gamers screams be if other miners act similarly and set that amount as the market price for a 6600 XT?"

You need to add DeFi questions with earned interest rate included for it to be a real math class.
