Uh-huh! They probably hired an acadamy award winning actress who looked like Ryder to play her on the video tapes. Man, whoever they got was a damned good likeness.

Actually, from what I've heard on the news about this, they don't actually have her on tape stealing anything. They only have her on tape, walking around the store with some merchandise.

I saw some video of her walking out the front doors and the security people asking her to come back in..... She definately did it.

I liked her on Mr. Deeds.

She is too important a commodity for prison. Thus sayeth the Market. Fine, token community service.

I think I do have a serious punishment

2 choices- Prison time, or she has to wear only Walmart special clothes. I am serious. This would hurt her ego (which I would say is the most valuable thing she has) more than anything, and considering the crime, fits.

Are you seriously suggesting prison time for a first time offender? For shoplifting?

She'd likely have been better off stealing a car.

That wouldn't fly (slap in the face of walmart and its customers), but ignoring that fact I agree that that, to her, could be a fairly serious punishment. Probably worse than community service anyway. She should be forced to drive herself in a car that cost no more than $15k if she wants to get around and use walmart clothes.

Probably probation, a fine and some community goodwill work, like the article said.

So...she'll still be making movies and looking hot in them....and that's what is important here.

I did not say send her to prison. I said give her a choice. Ok, I will add make restitution. No knock against walmart in this context, although I do have some problems related to corporate practices. What I mean is let her choose her ignomity, which is no doubt how she would see it. What better way to humble the proud.

Shoplifting very rarely results in jail time as far as I know. It's usually fine, community service and probation. If this is what she gets, then she'll actually be punished more severely than many shoplifters. Unless she had previous problems with the law, I very much doubt it she'll gert jail time.

Gawd I'd hate to be in her shoes. Most people, this crime would be dropped for a first timer or some little fine and some little petty theft charge. But no, the prosecuters are RABID since she's a celebrity and the got thier ass handed to them by OJ's team. Sad.

i agree. 3 years of prison for shoplifting would be way too excessive. the penalty has got to fit the crime.
