What part of New Mexico will she be driving? I live in San Juan County and the kit I made my girlfriend is a bit different than most because of where she was driving. You have the basics down, but knowing what part might clue in for something extra.

Edit: As for keeping water from freezing, I keep a case of bottled water in my truck year-round. In the winter, I just throw a jacket on top of the case and it keeps it from freezing overnight. I'd suggest keeping a wool blanket in her car and keeping the blanket on top of the water.

Just between Santa Fe and LVNM - so, it's not a huge distance, but there are those valleys and around Glorieta that get a little dicey.

I figured it was either in my area or around Santa Fe. So, where you're at, your best bet is just the basics:

Wool blanket
Extra pair of clothing (mainly socks, pants, etc in case you have to go outside and your clothes get wet while you're stuck)
A good Maglite flashlight (don't skimp on this, get a good one over 500 lumens)
Extra batteries
Strike anywhere matches
Lighter
A book (always have something to pass the time and if you're stuck, you don't want to drain your phone battery with Angry Birds)
Extra gloves
Granola bars (despite popular opinion for energy/protein bars, granola bars - ie. Nature Valley Honey and Oats - won't go bad for years)
And some extra water.

My friend and I got stuck in his Jeep a few years back coming back from Hesperus and the only thing that prevented us from getting obliterated by a snowplow (we were buried in snow halfway in the bar ditch), was his 1,000 lumen flashlight he turned on and left facing out the back window so cars coming up from behind could see us. From where the snowplow was driving, he would have taken off the entire backside of his jeep - which was where my buddy's head was resting.

Along with the basics, it's probably best to keep a change of clothes at work. For the couple times a year the pass gets sketchy she can just stay the night.

I lived in Santa Fe for all of the 90's, partying, skiing, mountain biking, and working construction. I miss it sometimes.

If I dont use it, the thing lasts for better part of 6 months.
But if I use it I can only get about 3 or 4 solid jumps from the thing and then it needs overnight charging. At least eight hours.

Dang, if I can get 3 or 4 jumps out of it in my life that would be crazy worth it. How in the world do you get 3 or 4 jumps in 6 months out of one?

Best stuff EVER.

I don't keep any kind of emergency kit in my car, but I do always have toothpicks, hand cream, lip balm and kleenex. More about comfort while driving than worrying about breaking down in the wilderness.

In case you just have to have a mid-drive wank?

Reread what I said.
If I DONT use it at all, the charge lasts up to 6 months.

If I DO use it, then it gets at most 4 jumps before its completely drained and needs recharging. Depending on whether I feel like helping out strangers, that could all occur in one day.

In its LIFETIME, the unit is supposedly good for thousands of jumpstarts.
And thats not a manufacturer claim either, its from the Triple-A guy who has had to help me out three times in my life. He uses that same brand for work and keeps that particular model in his wifes car.

Some kind of container/s or bags to use the bathroom?
You must live in a big city.

If you're stuck, you can still pop the door open, take care of business, then get back inside. Hell, even if you're not stuck, it's not uncommon to see people pulled over on the side of the road to pee and if you're driving down any of the oil field roads, you'll eventually see someone running for the bushes.

Aren't we talking about being stuck in the middle of no where. It's called nature...it doesn't mind some organic diversification.

A shovel/trowel is all you need.

I was under the assumption it was a woman that was going to do the traveling.

Hmm...you must be new to women. They are capable of defecating/micturating outside with out any "help". They've been doing it for thousands of years.

What are we up to now? About 1500 pounds of gear and post-apocalypse survival supplies?

Maybe she could just drive an RV back and forth to work. Don't forget the generator and extra fuel.

Chocolate malt ice cream. If she's going to die in a snowbank, she might as well have something tasty to bide the time until hypothermia sets in..
