Winter hobbies?

Snowmobiling is AWESOME.
4 wheeling / ATV riding is awesome.
Cross country skiing can be fun.
Snowshoing can be ok.

Winter is the best time of the year, though it sucks being so close to the City, not very many trails, and very crowded (40miles NW of Chicago here.)

Snowmobiling is awesome. it is such a fun sport. If you do a rental, make sure the place you rent from has insurance. It is very easy to break equipment or run over invisible snow covered boulders that ruin the entire front suspension of a snowblower forcing you to pay $600 because you broke it. Ask me how I know this...

I grew up on a farm in Ohio. What we did was farming. Animal care, seed germination testing, planning for spring and summer. And of course, managing the woodpile, and cooking on the old wood stove. Shooting rabbits, deer, whatever for the family dinner. Scrounging money to keep the bills paid. Plus, thawing out frostbite. And the amazing fun of winter crops. Lots different from warm-weather planting.

Edit - don't forget winter laundry. Clothes do actually dry on the line in freezing temperatures, as long as it isn't wet out there.

I know it's tons of hard work, but that sounds like a nice winter to me. Beats the hell out of horrible commutes and dealing with paperwork and politics at the office.....

I would HATE to do that stuff in the summer though, Can't stand the heat!

I agree with you about the heat. I don't miss that at all!
