WinXP and Outlook Errors

I recently installed XP and have been having issues with Outlook Express. It downloads mail fine, but whenever I try to send something, it always fails. Is there some type of default security setting I should know about. I am running a DLink router and a cable modem, if it may have anything ot do with it?

Does the router have a built in firewall, or are you running any firewall? Maybe make sure the XP firewall is disabled, I never used it, but it might be blocking the outgoing port for email. Or you could try running a different mail client, just to test. If you tried like Eudora and it duplicated the problem then you could narrow it down to a firewall issue

Quick question. Where in the hell do i access the XP Firewall settings. When i set up my cable modem and router it said something about that but I cannot seem to find it. I went into LAN Connection Properties and the ICF is not enabled. I'm going to try a diff mail client now

Eudora seems to work fine. Guess its some typical MicroHell issue. At least I can send mail now, but I'd still like to get it fixed

yeah in XP the firewall is strangely hidden, go to control panel/network/view network settings and the last tab has it, I think it's off by default. but I'm not sure that was just on my system

What kind of error are you getting when your send fails?
