The mini LAN is very simple:
1 3COM 8 Port switch
2 computers running XP
1 Speedstream 5200 Router/firewall
Internet is fine, and I can see both computers on the network fine.
I have two shares, one on SysA, one on SysB.
SysA and read and write to the share on Sys B
However if SysB tried to read the share on SysA it crashes.
I am familiar with NT (3.5x, 4.0 and 2000) workstation and server (8 years experience), Windows XP Professional (what ever that means) is a pain in the ass, but once I figured out how to turn of Networks for dumbies it looks and works almost like the real NOS's listed above with the caveat that it doesn't seem to work like the NOS's listed above, read they work.
Bitching asside, this is a no brainer, you create the share, set permissions (I have an account MYNAME on both machines with the same password on both machines and folder level permissions are set to FULL for that user, EVERYONE is set to read)
I;ve applied the SP1 to both, applied hot fixes, removed and recreated the shares all to have SysB crash every time. (FWIW, this is the only thing that's crashed my XP boxes so it's a real thorn in my side)
