winxp boot problem

ok im gettin an error message when i start up my pc, it says it has detected an error yadda yadda yadda, then it says "unmountable_boot_volume"

i tried disabling some stuff in the bios n tried to get into windows using safe mode, none of it worked.

i would try installin windows over itself but i dont know if that will erase my data or not, btw im using windows xp pro

anyone with some ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Have you changed anything recently? How old is the hard drive? First thing you could try is to try the Last Known Good Configuration option. You could also try to go through the windows recovery console process. Last resort is to reinstall, and it should not delete your data (just don't format).

negative, havnt changed anythin lately. the last software i installed was about 6 days ago, no hardware since i got the pc up and runnin 4-5 weeks ago. the last known good config option is that option in the startup menu where it says safe mode, safe mode w/netowrkin & stuff like that, i tried that and it didnt do anything

wuts the windows recovery console process.. never heard of that

oh if it helps anyone heres the technical code the error message gave me: 0x000000ED (0x817d6440, 0x0000032, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
