winxp firewall or zonealarm?

Depends on the version of ZAP you are using as there is a pretty recent version that isn't compatable w/ XP; the reason why the latest version of Anypoint II s/w from intel does not include a f/w program if you d/l the XP version. Hope this helps

I hates the ZoneAlarm and I'm not so sure about Tiny Fire Wall anymore... And don't tell - "get a router"... Are there any good firewall programs left?

One other thing... You don't really need it, period. People aren't set out to hack your little computer. And what do you have to hide, exactly? I ran my cable without a firewall for quite a while and I never had a single problem. I'd say smart browsing (to avoid viruses) is far more important than "protecting yourself" from "hackers" with firewalls. It's never a bad thing to have extra security, but it isn't something you should frett about.

I wouldn't trust the XP firewall since MS really isn't into the network protection business. ZAP works for me.

I wouldn't use the XP firewall. Try Sygate firewall,it works very well with XP.

Zone alarm, which I'm trying for fun is driving me buggy. I keep getting, every so often two attempts to access an att dns server with no reference to what app is trying to do it. Thought it could be a trojan so I installed it on a rather recent reinstall and same thing. Not sure what's going on but if I let it inform me live, It stopps whatever I'm doing cold. Rather anoying since I don't know what's trying to reach a DNS server.

Used ZA and didn't like it (it seemed to be a resource hog) switched to Kerio/Tiny and I'm much happier. Also using a Linksys router and Norton Internet Security which I got with my cable modem, but I never installed it to try it out.

Not to mention Outpost Firewall is pretty decent too. I like it as much or better than ZoneAlarm
