Getting tired of XP's theme, and Plus themes. Are there any mods or anything for XP that can make it different?

Does the Windows Classic theme really make a difference on system performance? I checked memory usage and the difference between Energy Blue and Windows Classic was < 2 MB. So what do we mean by bloated? Just curious as to what the advantages of using Windows Classic would be...

What I dislike most with the XP theme are the thick borders around the windows, it just takes up to much space.

The best Windows XP facelift software I've found is Knoppix. Definate improvement, by far.

What turned me away from the third party shells is that none of them really fit and work perfectly with windows and all applications. For example litestep doesn't cooperate well with full screen 3d apps.

On a reasonably modern computer you won't notice a difference in performance. On older machines with slower processors and less RAM, the Classic theme can make the interface a bit snappier.

There's barely any difference on the type of computers people in these forums are using today... i.e. Greater than 2000mhz Athlon64's or greater than 3000mhz Pentium4's. with gobs and gobs of RAM.

However, there was a performance impact on the machines common in mid to late 2001, when WinXP first came out.
1.2GHz T-Birds, 1.4GHz Palomino's, maybe a 1.8GHz Pentium 4. 256mb ram. etc.
