can anyone tell me is this normal?
I installed IIS yesterday night because my col projects required me to do so.
after installing it, I could feel that my system is kind of like becoming less responsive then before.
sometimes when i open "my computer", it would like stuck there a 1 sec, and then only appear. the same goes to right clicking menu.

Is this normal or ..??
Is there any fix on this?

I wonder if the installation routine changed the priority for the OS from Applications to Background services...

To check, right click on my computer and select properties. Click on the Advanced tab and then choose Performance Options (I think. I unistalled XP and went back to 2000 after I found myself disabling a lot of the "features"). Anyways.

What are your system specifications?

I have quite a good specs here.

tbredB 2.25ghz sync with 512mb of ddr400 ram.
nforce chipset.
WinXP + SP1

this little problem it's very annoying.
everytime after closing up my system properties or my network place or recycle bin, I can't straight away launch the desktop menu or the start menu.
the "selected item" highlight will stick with "my computer" for a while, like 1-2secs (for me it looks like it's waiting for some responses or searching for something) before it passes the control back to me.
Just checked my college's PC (winxp + SP1 + IIS) and it doesn't have the problem I'm facing.
This only happens after I installed IIS.

igiveup: will try your suggestion once I get back home. thanks.

Well, your system specs are really good, and you shouldn't be seeing anything like you are there. The only thing that is popping up as a question in my mind has to do with your disk subsystem (hard drive). I had problems like this with a Western Digital 800JB (the 8mb cache verison. Go figure) when I had the hard drive set up as a slave on the primary channel. Western Digital recommended that for best performance that you move the drive to primary, on the end of the cable, and set the jumper to cable select. Now I know that the chances of this being the case for you are almost NIL, but after I changed things around like they suggested the drive shot up in terms of performance.

As a test to see if the disk subsystem is the problem, and BEFORE YOU CHANGE ANYTHING AROUND, why don't you run something like HDTach or Sysmark 2003 (the disk test. While you are at it, run the whole range and find out where your computer is slow!).

What version of 4 in 1s are you running?

Okay. fixed

and guess what..it was because I didn't set a password for my account. I can't believe it and I have no idea why, without a password, my system would face that problem I've stated above after installing IIS.
maybe because of some security reasons.
I'm the only PC user in my house, so I never set a passwd for my account since no one else uses the pc, besides I don't have any important data

Woww. after spending 3 days, reinstalled windows for 11 times, I can't believe it was because of one stupid passwd.

thanks for you precious time igiveup

btw, i'm using nforce chipset, so no 4in1 for me
