This isn't a protest. This is a snot nosed little kid thinking he is better than everyone else.

And no, I didn't. I broke laws because I was a snot nosed kid thinking I was better than everyone else. For the most part, I got over it.

Copyright law is a good thing. Protesting it is moronic and helps no one.

As for Bill Gates or Microsoft losing money off pirated products... well, boo-hooo, look how bad they're doing because of it. Personally, I have no sympathy for Microsoft and their tactics - and whether you buy or pirate their OS, the result is still market domination large enough to give Gates his power. Most industry analysts will agree.

From experience, those who are prone to pirate their OS will pirate any software they find useful, that includes shareware from single programmers.

I'm not sure i get your point, pirating is stealing, that's exactly what it is, so let's call it what it is, is stealing a behaviour to be condoned, but only if the person you steal from is a greedy bastard?

Besides, as n0cmonkey already pointed out, you are still supporting Microsoft by supporting their platform, if Linux was more common on home computers, the gaming industry would work a lot harder on making their games work with Linux.

"Copyright law is a good thing" is a dangerous genaralization, and the extension of copyright laws in the U.S. through the DMCA and other related legislation will prove to be detrimental in the long run, regardless of immediate financial returns. It's a good thing the rest of the world is avoiding such broad legislation.

The DMCA is another animal all together. Copyright law protects copyright holders, the DMCA takes away the rights of users. It does nothing for the copyright holders, except keeps them from the truth. I don't consider the DMCA legitimate.

Look again. They aren't.

Oh, please, protesting them by helping them gain marketshares? This is because people don't understand that stealing is simply wrong, no matter from who you steal. (that and they are cheap bastards)

These people don't want to pay for a product, so they steal it, that isn't a protest, that is theft.

I have one pc for myself, on gateway pc, one for my wifes business, one for my kid, i guess thats only 4 not 5. Sorry for the bad math

Why do you need Windows XP Pro on each of the systems? Are you running a domain? Using Encrypted files? Use remote desktop?

Here are a few legal suggestions.

XP Pro is NOT needed for a gateway system. Windows XP Home, Windows 2000 Pro, or any variant of the FREE OS linux would work just as well, if not better. Consider Googling for Smoothwall.

XP Home is exactly the same as XP Pro, but XP Pro allows for a system to be joined to a domain, includes remote desktop, encrypting file system, and a few other features. It is not slower, it is not less compatible, it is not less secure. It is targeted at HOME users.

And as its been said, your logic is screwed. I paid for my Honda, I want three more, I should get them for free right! So sad.

It isn't really theft. It's copyright infringement.

Of course, without copyright, we lose: Linux, BSD, Apache, sendmail, qmail, bind, samba, and probably just about every other piece of software out there that isn't supported by some big corporation.
