When I used to use WinXP my overclock was stable (p95 stable 20+ hrs) but when i use the same settings, the pc randomly freezes not even in a game just browsing the web or using aim or something..

Anyone have any remedies??

Verify your bios settings are the same as they were.

Strangely enough, when i upgraded to Vista, i was getting random crashes and stuff. After a few weeks of this, i ran orthos and it errored almost immediately. Loosened my ram timings and it improved, but still errored. I thought it was Vista.

Went back to XP (dual boot) and same results as in Vista, Orthos errored out. As it turns out, my ram Voltage was somehow set back to stock 1.8V. I needed 2.1V to get it stable.

I have no idea how installing Vista could reset my ram voltage (no way in hell it should be able to), and it may have just been a coincidence with the install. It's worth a look though.

^ Good question.
It'd be a good idea to try and find out what your maximum stable OC is now. Also if you happen to be dual booting XP, it would be worthwhile to re-check stability there too.

Do you use orthos? It's a single program that runs 2 Prime95 threads parallel to stress the CPU.

you know i thought of trying to run at stock speeds this morning and i found out it still freezes on stock speeds...this wasnt a problem in XP, in XP i was sure that this OC in my sig was fine prime95 ran for 20+ hours stable memtest ran for 12 hours stable, but its just in vista everything crapped out.

yeah not using vista is one solution but i happen to be one of the few who likes vista more than xp

i have a feeling my problem might be linked to my psu, i'm using a rosewill psu (please dont beat me down yet) which has worked fine...till i guess now but i ordered a corsair 520watt psu and hopefully that will fix my problems.

My overclocked E6300 system is ortho, prime and memtest rock solid stable in XP, but it will not boot into Vista without lowering my overclock settings. This is probably a driver issue.

My solution has been so far to stay with XP.

yeah that was another thing i suspected that the AMD driver isnt that good in vista and maybe MS or AMD has to come out with a better driver for vista.

alright so i bought a new psu and installed it and i went back to WinXP, i just didnt want to deal with Vista's other problems, and i used OCCT since it has a simple interface and it ran for 6hours stable...but the funny thing is sometimes i might use my pc for 5 minutes and then be away for 1 min and then come back move my mouse and then it freezes...i dont get this...this happened in vista too but never in winxp but its happening now...

Sounds like drivers problem. The OS doesn't like one (or more) of your parts. Try booting the system with bare minimum? (i.e. disconnect DVD-ROM, TV tuner, etc.)
