oh, ive been playing a mmorpg beta, Lineage II: Chaotic Chronicle. Its a korean mmorpg, pretty awesome. It seems to run better in win2k3 then xp, doesnt crash like it did in xp, but the last time i played it was with directx 9.0a, then didnt play it again until i installed 9.0b, so maybe that fixed the crashing.

old post **once again im back to say 2k3 is faster when doing everyday things as for example a simple task like opening *IE* on my end its fast not sure about other xp users.

he had a 15% differance in the drive speed based upon a single test with a program that gives simple/mediocre disk performance bench results. If he had good, solid, averaged benches performed on the drives after they had been properly prepared than he would have gotten results with a less than 5% deviation.

Win 2K3 is not a desktop OS, get over it. If you really want to run something "out of the ordinary" on your desktop go look into one of the "odd" (less commonly used as a desktop) *nix varients such as BSD, sub-7, etc. etc.

First off, read the license for Windows Server editions. They do not allow you to do whatever you want with it. Alsom most users do not have a choice because of price. The only people with a choice to use it as a desktop OS because of price are the one's obtaining it illegally. Would you spend $1000 on an OS when you can spend <$200 to get a more functioning desktop environment? Secondly, the reason Windows Server 2003 may feel like it is openning things faster is because the MenuShowDelay is set to zero. This causes all menu's and submenu's to open without delay. Also, Linux was not made to be a server. It was made to be an OS that was meant for general purpose, yet based off of Unix.

Yes. Your right about the price and such such. but imo its better than xp as you can tell since im posting here. Windows xp runs slow on my pc, but 2k3 and 2k runs fast and im not sure why because my pc is up to spec. Is my pc too slow for xp? I dont really think so and if it is im far behind on xp min. specs.

Price is bad: why?
Software: Anti-Virus programs usally only install on 9x and 2k/xp instead of the server os, so you have to buy the corp version of avs most of the time.




Things that ms allow you to do is low compared to using a 9x/xp/2k enviroment os.

And finally, did you ever think that 2k and 2k3 run faster on your box because they don't have all the eye candy that XP has by default?
